Best quality pop rivet gun?

I am assembling some tools needed to do the Annual check (previously I had only tools for the 50hr check).

One thing I need to get is a really good "pop rivet" (blind rivet) gun which works well and doesn't suffer from the rivet's mandrel getting stuck inside it.

A few months ago I was re-doing the engine baffles and spent most of the time extracting the spent mandrels out of the gun. And yes I was using the right size gun collet etc.

I have a feeling I may have to buy the tool from some specialist supplier in the USA...

Buy a high quality hand rivet gun, that should minimize the issue.

I pulled 14,210 Avex rivets on my Zenith 801... Hardly ever has a mandrel get jammed in the gun...


I did destroy a couple of air pullers when I riveted my firewall with the tough Stainless Steel rivets... Broke the castings completely.:(
 
I did a google on a Zenith 801 but it is an airplane, not a rivet gun :D
 
Sorry for not being clear... I need a manual one.
 
This is the one I last used, which kept jamming.

If someone can recommend one which works really well, I will buy it, from the USA if necessary. Amazon.com doesn't sell to the UK but I have contacts out there.
 
The HP-2 is the same pop rivet gun that I've used for 20 years or more. I never had many problems. We use a few pop rivets on the interior, but it's mainly used for quick simple pulls on Cherry max rivets.

I really hate pop rivets on baffle seals. The come loose over time and they just look like junk. I always install my baffle seals using AN470 (A) soft rivets. It can be done just as quickly as pop rivets and they look professional.

I hate to be the harbinger of bad news, but you have the best hand rivet tool available. What brand rivets are you using? The only time I have jams is when pulling cheap Pop Rivets.

Those should be fine. I suggest you disassemble it and see if there is a burr or some foreign object stuck in there, or maybe some flash on the jaws. They typically don't have major problems.

Where is this Army Surplus Store of which you speak?

We used to have true surplus stores around here, but the last one I knew of was Academy, and they're a full line sports and outdoors store, now, no surplus of any kind.

There's one not far from me, in a sparrow-fart village even smaller than the one I live in. Go figure.

The one I bought the rivet gun at was in Springfield, MO, but they are all over the country. If you know someone that works for a governmental entity have them check with state surplus, they have them also.
