Best car to sit at the airport

Can a normal healthy American male actually fit in a newer Miata?
I remember trying to sit in one at the Auto show a few years ago, and could fit as long as the door didnt close and the top was down.

The new normal is not healthy. It's 40lbs overweight.

6-1 and 225 and I fitted fine in the Miata as well as the Honda S2000 I had, and of course all those British POS I owned years ago, :D

Miata will perform better than that Toyota on a road course.

Not a chance. I've owned a cherry MR2 AW11 NA since it was new in 86, and you'll never get as deep a turn in with a Miata as I can with the MR2. Something about the engine in the front and all. The Toyota 4AGE is a sweet little thang.

Driven them both. The Miata is nice at speed in the straights, but can't keep up in the turns. If the MR2 is an SC, well, don't even try.

For an airport car? An old Cherokee is cheap, solid and reliable.

Are they *really* bulletproof? I mean, I am pretty sure a .40S&W would penetrate any of the body panels.

Yes, that's exactly what I meant. Just like Bond's DB-5.

The Bronco II's didn't look *that* bad. The F-150 version did look better however.

Mine did.

It had been a surfer truck, so lots of surfboard dings in the roof. It was once blue. 80s Ford blue paint = rust, even in California. Someone decided that flat blue rattle can paint would fix that (actually, it did, but it wasn't pretty).

I think an older YJ Jeep Wrangler on pizza cutter tires would be good. Not hard to steal but also not really worth stealing.

Thought the engine was a mid-engine installation? Motor Trend did a piece comparing the two and they're pretty even in all track events they did. They picked the Miata though for being more fun.

I think he meant the Miata engine being in the front. Mister Two is definitely a mid-engine car.

I bet a pro driver would find an early MR2 and early Miata pretty evenly matched on the track. I've always liked driving the Mazda more than the Toyota, personally ... but I'm biased. I've owned about four Miatas and used to autocross them :)

I'm completely in love with the new generation 2016 Miata that just came out. I don't buy new cars on principle (don't want to take the huge depreciation hit) ... but I've never been more tempted than with the new Miata. I spent a couple days driving it in California, and jeez it's a great redesign.

I'm also a huge fan of the Honda S2000, but it's a car that got worse through the years. When it first came out, it had an engine with a crazy-high redline, and you almost had to drive it like a total jerk to keep from stalling the engine at stoplights. It was a blast! It felt like all the power came at the top end of the rev range, and it sounded vaguely like an F1 car when you wound it up.

After a few years, Honda changed the engine so it made more torque at the low end. Lower redline. Easier to drive. Less fun, at least to me.

They are pretty evenly matched, at least in the na version. The supercharged MR2 mk1 is a rocket.
And just because it's mid engine doesn't mean you can't snap the rear end loose...btdt, but it's very balanced with your foot on the throttle.

Biggest advantage the Miata has is it's a ragtop, and that's hard to beat for fun factor.

I have to agree with ya about the new Miata...good looking machine.

This is exactly where I am. I never buy the first year of anything though.

I test drove one many years ago, then bought an airplane instead. I just didn't like the video tach, and digital speedo. It was just wrong. Yes, it was a screamer.

No Mazdas, Miatas, Toyotas or any other girlie cars at my local airport. They would not survive quitting time on Fridays...

And no one parks close to these guys....

Old panther cop cars. Cheap and usually reliable. Most people won't mess with a cop car even if retired

Anything I can clean the inside of with a garden hose. There is something to be said for a vehicle that you don't have to baby.

On my 2008 S2000 (sold it few years ago) I think around 6000-7000 rpms (I was usually in 3rd gear) it felt and sounded like a turbo boost kicking in, and it would go like hell. Loved to be on interstate on ramps and jerks wouldn't let me in. Floored that muther and I easily 'merged'!

Agree on the 2016 Miata. Love the body style on it. Like to see one w/ the HP of a S2000 (240hp), man that thing would be a blast with that much power.

I bought and drove an 05 cvpi for a few years. The panther was a great platform. I sure miss it!
