More restrictive requirements than NASA put on either pilot-astronaut or mission specialist positions.
Back in 1977 when NASA opened the Mission Specialist position to the public the only requirements were pass Class III medical and be a college graduate in a technical field. Aviation experience was optional for the MS.

It's that test pilot bit in there that will thin out the riff raff.
I wonder if they'll take the test pilot design and flight experience I did as a kid while building flying machines to ride in. It doesn't get more experimental than that. Even Daedalus and Icarus mumbled something about seriously experimental aircraft..though for some reason it sounded a lot like they said seriously terrifying deathtrap.

Taxi to Parking
When I saw the ad I was really, really tempted to just run out and do my commercial as quick as I could so I could apply. The word "astronaut" has a lot of cache with me.
