I am a private pilot who is moving to the Bay Area in July 2020. Nearly all of my training has been at KHHR in Los Angeles in Cirrus SR20's (G6). I'd love to stay with Cirrus aircraft but also considering options in other planes. My IFR training was cut short due to the Coronavirus but I plan on finishing in the near future as things open up a bit.

Anyone interested or know of small clubs and/or partnerships in the Bay Area who have shares available?

I know of West Valley Flying Club and similar such as the Stanford club but these are quite huge and I'd prefer a smaller group.

I’ll be in San Mateo county so I listed the airports I’m likely to desire being based out of. The only stretch might be Half Moon bay. My current work situation (regardless of COVID) is remote so I can avoid rush hour traffic for airports like SJC and RHV as needed.
 
Both JATO and West Valley Flying Club are great at KPAO. Did my instrument at WVFC and am working on commercial at JATO. Also potentially looking for a G6 partnership in an SR20.

I used to be a mamber of West Valley Flying Club, and I’m now a member of Advantage Aviation, both in Palo Alto. I remain a member even though I have had my own plane since 2012. I stayed with West Valley when they had a Decathlon and moved to Advantage when the Decathlon moved there. Advantage also has a really fun Great Lakes biplane.

The point I’m making is that sometimes there are advantages in being with a big club due to the variety of planes that they have.

To answer your question about smaller clubs, I believe there’s a fairly small club which has, I think, a 182. It’s located a few hangers down from mine at KSJC. A web search might get some contact info.

I did some more checking this morning. I think these are the guys to whom I was referring. It’s a 172 instead of a 182, but they also have a Bonanza.

San Jose is a great airport. They have an ILS so it’s easy to get into even when the marine layer is low. There’s not much traffic, even when times are normal, and the tower crew is very friendly and helpful. Fuel prices are high, but there’s lots of airports with cheaper fuel nearby.
