Battery replacement as private pilot questions..

FYI: if its not a pain you could always disconnect the battery when parked which will reduce its discharge rate vs a battery minder.
Would you need a placard and log book entry every time you re-connected it?

But more seriously: does it still help if there weren't any vampire devices in the plane? (e.g. clocks/GPS/etc that have their own standby battery)

In general, yes. You can measure the discharge with a "connected" battery by putting a digital ammeter between the negative battery wire and the negative battery post. Any reading no matter how small (.01A) will add up over time. All lead acid batteries internally self-discharge with AGM type batteries the least affected over a greater span (years) than wet batteries (months). By simply disconnecting the battery if unable to connect a float charger you can keep the battery at a higher static charge longer. So if optimum battery service life is your goal keeping the static charge at 100% for as long as possible is the priority.
