Basic Med Timing Question

Friends -

I took my first Basic Med exam on March 20, 2019. This means that I would normally need to have my next one in March 2023.

My Primary Care doc is retiring at the end of the year. If I have him give me another exam in December, 2021, am I good through December 2025 (assuming I take the requisite written tests)?

Yes. When you take the education course at 24 months, you will enter you new exam data.

You can also take the online course early too, to keep the renewal dates concurrent.

You would need to have your next exam before March 20, 2023. This is one of the only currency rules that don’t expire at the end of the month.

Per AOPA “The BasicMed physical exam must be completed every 48 months (to the day), but the online education course is required to be completed every 24 calendar months (by the end of the twenty-fourth month).”
