Basic Med for student?

A chap who wants to buy one of my planed is a lapsed student.
He plans on renewing his medical through Basic Med. Can he use Basic Med as a student?

Yes, as long as he otherwise qualifies.

If he once had a medical, and hasn't been declined for another since then, that's good. Whether he's been flying at all, or not, that makes no difference.

In fact, one could take a kindergartner in for a third-class medical, even though she's not even a student pilot and cannot solo for many years. Once she's got that one medical, she's good for the future ... Basic Med for the rest of her life.

When did his last medical expire? If any time after July 15, 2006, he can do it with BasicMed.
