Bad day at APA

Flip her over and it'll buff right out. Maybe a 2lb sledge to straighten the prop. :yikes:

"trying to manually turn the propeller"?

Ummmm.

What did he do that for ?

Hand propping a 182? Strange & stupid. Somehow, I don't think the insurance company will cover this.

Ow! I'm glad that there were no serious injuries, and I'm glad that the runaway plane didn't do more damage, but it hurts seeing a good plane, especially a 182, with the wings in the wrong location like that. Especially when they consider it "totaled." :(

Hand-propping a 182 ALONE doesn't seem like a very good idea.
He may very well have been just "pulling it through", and didn't make sure the mags were grounded before doing so. Almost as dumb as actually trying to start it by yourself, but it makes a little more sense.
From the description of his injuries ("arm lacerations"), I'd say he was very lucky to walk away with both hands still attached... scary stuff.

Local TV news reports that the pilot had a dead battery so he went to hand prop it. I can't tell from the photos, but it looks like it traveled across 10-28 and landed on the SE side of the airport from the direction of the barbed wire fence and the houses in the background.

That's what it looks like to me too. He must have been parked somewhere on the east ramp. I wonder if he got clearance to cross the runway. :)
