BackCountry

Awesome video and choice of music. Thanks for sharing.

It's on the list! I get the plane for 60/hr which is nice but its slow as can be so long trips still end up costing $$$ ;)

You get that cub for $60hr?!

MOTHRA!!!!!!!!!!!!

great video!

That yellow glare shield is more like a glare generator! Otherwise, awesome. I'm jealous. Very, very jealous!!! :D

Great stuff, Austin!
Love the Cub-yellow tent, too.

If you leave now, you can make it to Oshkosh on time.

BTW, what is the handle on your left that you use during takeoff?

Flaps!

We're prepping some Xcubs to be out at Oshkosh so you'll get to take a peek if you're there. - I'll be stuck in the office though :)

I figured flaps, but wasn't sure why you were messing with them on takeoff.

Yep, I'll be at Oshkosh. Sorry you won't be! How about the Bremerton AOPA Fly In?

It helps with STOL in the cub, pops you off the ground faster, then a slow retract in. Bremerton looks a bit far for me unfortunately, it's still about a 4-5 hour drive and the cub is no faster :)

Wow... never seen a back country airport that has a paved runway........ darn rich pilots....;):D:D

And great video and music, thanks.!!

If you ever have an extra Carbon Cub (or any other variant because I am *NOT* picky!) please leave it in my care back at APA. ;)

Trying my hand at backcountry camping at Ranger Creek WA (21W)

Nice.

I'm assuming thats a gopro cam. Has anyone tried using a neutral density filter to slow the shutter speed and increase prop blur. I've seen that demostrated on a drone but not in cockpit footage yet.

The technique lowers the light coming in forcing the gopro to a longer exposure = more motion blur which can be beneficial in some cases.(like prop shutter effects).

You may be able to use a polarizing filter and kill two birds with one stone and get that reflection out as well.

Not a gopro. I hate gopros too big and clunky though Im sure they work fine for aircraft exterior mounting. This is a POV VIO HD. You can see the main camera body on the right side of the windscreen over the panel. The camera head is snaked up along the V brace to the sun visor.

Cool, so maybe there is a way to set it manually to some longer exposure then. You might get a more natural view of the prop(an invisible one probably)

I've been tempted to duct tape a polarized sunglass lens to my gopro and see what I get.

I loved my Sport Cub. Even with only 100 hp it's a decent backcountry airplane. At light weights I could do just about anything my friends with PA-12s and Huskies could do.

Here's a video at Tieton, with a GoPro clamped to the windshield brace. The black cover over the glareshield helped a lot.

I had a couple of ND filters that I used on my GoPro early on. There were "medium" and "high" filters, based on lighting outside. They did reduce or remove prop blur very well, but made the overall video darker, too. I didn't much care for that. I've since stopped using them in most cases where I film my flights.

I love tieton! Last weekend was a toss up of ranger creek vs Tieton. Tieton will be next month I think.

Not to pick a nit but how is a paved runway "backcountry"?

Playing around low-level last summer:

Just got around to posting it.
