Took a test flight in a plane I'm interested in buying this evening.
It has a few issues, two of which are a VOR (the type that has the radio in it) doesn't work, and there's an ADF that's inop and should be pulled.

Any idea on a ballpark to fix the VOR and pull the ADF? Would a W&B need to be calculated if the ADF is pulled?

Always looking to drop some weight out of planes. I know the ADF doesn't weigh a ton, but anything helps. All depends on costs, though. Too bad it isn't something I can take out myself. :yesnod:

You're likely looking at $1000, depending on what Nav radio you are talking about, it may or may not be repairable though, that needs to be considered.

The VOR that needs repair is a VOR/NAV Receiver combo.

The plane has three radios: a nav/comm combo, and another comm radio. Well, four if you count the receiver in the VOR/Nav...

That doesn't say anything toward make and model as to whether it'll be repairable.

None of the radios in 99% of the aircraft are worth repairing when they fail.

There are exceptions, I'm sure you own one.

Depends what you have, Garmin flat rates repairs that are considerably less expensive than replacement, and I had my Kx -165s fixed in my Travelair for not much money to replace a popped transistor.

If those are the narco 112 or 112d you might have a tuff time getting them rebuilt, unless it's just the display or a knob gear, plenty of those on eBay.

You could check the back and the tray connectors, maybe you'll luck out and it'll be something simple.

For removing the ADF, yep new W&B, no biggie.

Whole deal shouldn't cost much.

Thanks. I've been browsing the used avionics shops looking to see if I can match it up. Can't find it, so I'm assuming its older than the two above. I believe its also a Narco unit, since almost everything else in the plane is Narco.

I'm trying to price out what a replacement for all this stuff will be. Guess I should be leaning towards replacement instead of repair on it. Thanks.
