Autopilot for C182?

Thinking of buying a late '60s C182.
The plane has no AP or any other fancy instrument (just a basic 6-pack).
I am a VFR-only pilot and do not plan to get IR.
Don't need anything fancy (no GPS coupling, no approaches...)
Would like altitude hold, if affordable (I doubt it).

Which APs should I consider, and how much are they installed?

Now that's a helluva deal right there! Pick up a Garmin 500 series GPS used and go to town!
 
Aera 660 for $750 and a gizmo dock and power/data cable.
 
Don't even really need a gps...it will fly trk mode. Get your fore flight out and draw that line. Track steer to the line and boom. But a gps will make it waaay more handy.
 
You don’t get a trk without some sort of gps signal. Without you get bank angle. Some gps is needed.

Garmin has a gps antenna that outputs in an NMEA format at 4800 or 9600 baud that will give you track. That’s the cheapest way, but even a 296 would be better than that because it would give you GPS Nav as well as track.

How does TruTrak compare to Garmin g500?
