Atlanta / Buckhead Recommendations

Restaurants / nightlife / museums recommendations for ATL. Will be here for 10 days. Staying in Buckhead. Thanks!
 
Atlanta isn't a touristy town, at least in that sense. The aquarium. The MLK center. The Fernbank museum are downtown options. If you're interested in railroads or the Civil war, there is a tremendous railroad museum in Kennesaw, and there are numerous hiking trails and battlefields nearby. Most of the Civil war stuff closer to Atlanta has been destroyed by development. A little farther out you have Stone Mountain, and if you're adventurous you could drive the hour or so to Macon and Warner Robbins and see A) the Big House (Allman Brothers Museum) and B) the Robbins Air Museum which is the second largest USAF museum.

I'm sure there's more, but I've only lived here for 60 years...

Thanks, I’m really keen on the Coca Cola museum I believe it’s there. And I want to find some whiskey distilleries for on the way home.

I shoulda thought about the Coca Cola museum. SWMBO works for Coke. That museum is a 2 minute walk from the aquarium. The aquarium is much better.

The College Football HOF is also right around the corner.
 
In Buckhead itself, the Southern Gentleman is a good restaurant/whiskey bar. The St. Regis Bar and Rose and Rye are also nice.

If you venture further into Atlanta I'd recommend Krog Street Market. Number of good restaurants and bars in that area including Lingering Shade Social Club, James Room, and the Ticonderoga Club.
 
Surin’s for Thai. Fontaines in Virginia Highlands. Highland Hardware one of the best tool stores on the planet.

Head to Chatt for Chickamauga Battlefield park.

Same here. Lived here (south side OTP) for 14 years and try to avoid ITP as much as possible other than our annual 'nice' dinner somewhere beyond the local digs. When people say "Hey, we're coming to Atlanta for vacation. What should we see or do?" I usually say "Keep driving to the mountains or beach."

94-26-36. My wife, 30+ years later, still remembers the measurements on the sign outside the club by Hartsfield. When dating, returning home from The Spin Doctors concert, we passed the sign and she insisted we stop saying, "I've got to see this"! Imagine a date demanding to be taken to such an establishment?! I looked and it appears to no longer be there.

The Clermont is a much more interesting experience. And if you're looking for that kind of evening, Johnny's Hideaway would be the place to start. It is the all-generations, moneyed pickup bar adjacent to the wealthiest Atlanta neighborhoods. You'd be amazed at some of the things that happen there...
 
Go to The Downwind at KPDK. About a 15 min drive north from Buckhead. Great spot and a great airport (even if the local community hates it ).

Also, if you like pizza - find a Mellow Mushroom. There is one in Buckhead on Peachtree and one in Brookhaven (on the way to PDK) right across from the Marta station.
 
No trip to Atlanta is complete without a pilgrimage to the Sacred Campus of Georgia Tech. Follow up with a chili dog at The Varsity.
 
A few years ago I would have suggested breakfast at Juniors and ordering French toast, but now, alas....

Is Cafe Intermezzo still around? Fantastic cheesecake.
 
For restaurants, Atlanta is home to an Ethiopian community that has good dining spots - Desta is a favorite.

Attractions I liked are geared toward history: Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Park. Atlanta History Center - make an appointment for the Cyclorama presentation.

Delta is dining us at Mellow Mushroom tomorrow so will be going there.
