Hey folks,

This is my first post as I am new here, although trolled this forum for a long time.

So in a nut shell I am interested in becoming more active in the GA community here in the DFW metroplex. I live Downtown so ADS is really close to me. I would like to meet new friends and learn more about aviation in General. I have family that flies and have been around it my whole life. I am at the point I am ready to start flight training in the next 3-4 months. It is something I have wanted to do my whole life and figure I better get on with it.

The past several years I would go out to McKinney (TKI) from time to time when I lived close to there. I drove out there last weekend and cutter had the place locked down tight. For as long as I can remember I have always been able to go out there and sit on the benches close to the hangers and watch the planes come and go.

The lady at cutter told me they are a more "secure" airport now. I'm really going to miss going out there.

So, would any of you guys in the area ever be interested in meeting up and showing off your planes to an aviation enthusiast and possibly grabbing lunch? :wink2:

Welcome! Check out DFWPilots.com's Message Board, too... it has a more geographically-focused audience than here, though we do have 8-10 or so DFW folks on this board.

I fly out of NW Regional (52F).

IPEngineer-- Internet Protocol, or Intellectual Property?

Thanks TangoWhiskey! I registered there as well, I will post the same thread over on that side when I get posting rights.

Yes, Internet Protocol. I am in the telecommunications business. It is all internet based - VoIP

You and Nate (denverpilot) will have lots to talk about (unless you're competitors!). He flies a 182, and is in the same line of work, on the tech side.

Welcome aboard! Posting here is a good start, so I hope to see/read more from you. I'm sure some of the other Texas pilots will post up shortly.

Google says this http://www.thetpa.org is the Texas Pilots Association... should be some good contacts there...
Local airport support group via AOPA may have other contacts....
Local Experimental Aircraft Association chapters can also generate some good elbow-rubbing....
Local FAA Safety seminars...

"there's no place like 10.0.0.1..." :)

Thanks Greg! I will check out some of those resources. Possibly find some meetings via the online calendar.

Indeed. I see you on Linkedin. We could have some discussions around oracle and mysql. But we will save that for another time! ;)

That is typically how you would see it JayBird. Since 127.0.0.1 is localhost that would reflect home.

Welcome!

Yup... VoIP stuff here... Linux stuff... kinda doesn't matter... if they point me at it and say "fix it", I usually figure out a way...

Sysadmins are the Internet's janitors. :)

Howdy from Denton!

Currently renting from a school at NW Regional in Roanoke. But aspire to find the right aircraft eventually.

Job Title: Auto Parts/Cash Conversion Specialist

yeah, been living in my own 10.0 segment for so long that my fingers have completely forgotten about the 127.0 segment

Howdy, IP Dude. Got a name?

Lot if us around here, I fly out of Addison as well (Bonanza). If you are serious about learning to fly, you might seriously look into the RFC Dallas Flying Club at KADS (www.RFCDallas.com ). They have some excellent instructors and reasonable rates.

Hope to meet you soon! I'm "Spike."

172.16.x.x - 172.31.x.x is far less commonly used and often helps with VPN RFC 1918 space clashes when NAT is utilized. ;)

I used to always set up home networks using 172.16 space just to avoid bad old VPN/NAT setups. I got lazy when I switched to Apple wireless gear and just let it use 10.x.x.x space.

Of course these days the machine may just grab 169.254.0.0/24 space too. :)

And there's always fc00::/7 and fe80::/10 if you want to be hardcore geeky. ;)

Hey Spike, nice to meet you. My name is Zane.

I will definitely check them out. I had been looking at Texins Flying Club out at TKI but think Addison will probably be a little more convenient for me. It also looks like most of the people on this forum fly out from there.

Hope to meet you soon!

Yes, for sure!

Zane missed that dinner gathering with Teller by only a day. Oh well, there will be more, I'm sure.

I am a somewhat regular visitor to KADS although we usually only stay for the day, sometimes overnight, though.
