So hypothetically is there any conceivable way one might arrange to have an in-flight emergency that you could argue necessitated landing at that big airfield”over there” that you can’t ID because all your Nav gear went down?

Sure...but declaring an emergency is only a get out of free card in relation to violations of FARs and not local laws (or National Security enforcement in this case)...so I am all for the livsetream to see how it goes!

Worked on the southwest end of that entire area long years ago. We were heavily briefed that the area we were in was a shoot first, question any survivors later zone. We were told that the security teams were given orders that when in doubt, shoot. Flew the company plane in a couple of times and we got escorted by armed USAF birds from a few miles out until we shut down in the parking area. Our permission to enter the airspace was prearranged via the Pentagon and we started to talk with AF controllers about 75 miles out.
