Install instructions call for a minimum length of 10ft if using RG400 to connect to the GPS antenna … actual distance between the transponder and the antenna is approx 3ft. Why the 10ft min length?

Because of the sensitivity of the antenna for WAAS, there is supposed to be a minimum amount of loss between the receiver/gps and the antenna.

Thinking is that when coax is coiled, it acts like a balun? To me it was odd that with RG400 requires a minimum length (10 ft) as opposed top RG 58 which has no minimum length. I called Appareo and they told me that corporate memory was lost as to the "why" of ten feet min using RG400. I am just going to go with the instructions and figure out the "why" later ... curiosity more than anything else. (The GPS antenna is mounted just behind the firewall and ahead of the windscreen ... the run to the transponder is about 3 feet) Interesting ... thanks for the reply! R/Lee

Understood … I have my interior out and have decided to replace that which was 58 with 400. No reason not to and will eliminate variables. The 58 was installed over 30 years ago … no issues I was aware of other than the aspect of degradation over time. Thanks! R/Lee
