The original "I don't know it all" of aviation.
I'd like to start a thread to track who from this board is coming to AOPA Summit.

Sorta like the Gaston's, AirVenture, and 6Y9 threads, something to keep track of who to expect.

Additional desire is to know who I need to go find to meet in person and see if we can arrange some gatherings at a local watering hole or eatery.

So if you're a definite or a maybe, post here and as we get closer, we can see if we can make some more definite plans.

Date: October 10 - 12, 2013

I'm going to go by the Bonanza Org place and harass them a bit, so I'm in. You should edit the thread to reflect the dates and exact location.

Bonanza annual convention is held in the same place at the same time.

We will be there late Wednesday through Sunday noon. Troy W. was thinking about seeing if we could get a bunch together in friend's hangar on Saturday evening.

I'll be there, and what Grant said above is true...working on it.

Interestingly, when I pre-registered several months ago, I signed up to volunteer since I am local... And haven't heard word one back from AOPA. ?!?

It's my understanding that they don't allow "the president to be" volunteer.

Troy, where did you go to sign up as a volunteer?

Have never been to one of those things before. Any fun?

As in.. if you were thinking about either attending an AOPA summit, or flying up NE to see the fall colors, which would you pick?

From where?

Sorry, don't see avatars. I'd go to S&F and fly to NE in October.
Location wasn't under it till yesterday, fixed that.

I go to S&F every year, Oshkosh too, except for the last two years. Was thinking about the AOPA thing, but then I've flown TX and the states east of it, but haven't gotten up to NE just yet.
Thank you for the input though.

I'm going to give whomever shows up from AOPA a small piece of my small mind. I'm sick of their fawning and sniveling when dealing with the govt on aviation issues.

Max,

I usually spend summers on the mid coast of Maine and head back to Texas in October. Foliage is a moving target, sometimes the peak has moved further south by Columbus weekend other times not until the following weeks. In the hills of Maine, NH, and VT it peaks earlier, the states have websites with the progress.

The AOPA event moves around a lot and may be back on the east coast in a year or two. call them and ask.

For me, having the ABS meeting almost next door will get me out of Maine in time to attend.

Cal

Thanks, Cal

Wife misses change of seasons ever since we moved down here. Tried chasing the colors in TN and Smokies last year, but were too early and then too late
I'm thinking on this trip we'll just head up north along the coast - couple of friends to visit in the NC and NJ and ..whatever it is that is fun in Maine as the motivation, and somewhere along the route we should be able to see some pretty colors.
Would definitely like to attend the AOPA Summit. Maybe whenever they have it on the East coast.
Thanks again!

Yeah, the Cowttown chow thing doesn't appeal to me... Well, if Tim Love is cooking, maybe...

We're doing the CowTown thing Friday, thought it might be fun. We'll also try to do the Trippin concert Thursday.
Summit will be in Palm Springs for at least 2014 & 2015, IIRC.
This should give a chance to meet the new President, Baker.
Free attendance for ASN volunteers, but we do need to pay for any of the entertainment packages.

We will be there late Wednesday through Sunday noon. Troy W. was thinking about seeing if we could get a bunch together in friend's hangar on Saturday evening.

Confirmed! We'll be having a hangar party / dinner at Eagle's Nest Airpark (2TS6), a 40 mile / 45 minute drive SE from Fort Worth. The party will be in the evening, 6pm-9pm; the day's forums end at 4:30 in Fort Worth. If you're going to the Hangar Dance at Meacham, you'll miss this event. The gathering will be held at the hangar of a friend of mine (and POA member / lurker), Terry (TerryD on POA), and his wife Kim's house.

If you want to fly in, please let me know in advance and we'll coordinate that with Terry. The field does have night lighting and a beacon, but it is a private field and he has limited parking so we may need to coordinate parking with his neighbors if you plan on flying over.

I will also be available to drive, and have room for three to four people if I just take my truck, or up to eight if my wife and I both shuttle people.

Dinner menu to be determined, probably will bring my smoker to Terry's place the night before and get some brisket and pork shoulders going. Texas FlyBQ style.

If you plan to make it, whether attending the Summit or not, please chime in on this thread with the number in your party and if you plan to drive, fly, or need a ride.

I'll be there all three days but unfortunately we will be driving. We live on Hicks Airfield (T67) just a couple miles north of Fort Worth Meacham's Class D airspace. For most of the Summit I can be found at Booth 600, Pilots N Paws.
Drop by and see us, we will probably have some sort of handouts from PnP.

I plan to attend most of it, but not sure where I'll be when as of today. I haven't put much thought about it.

@MikeR, I'll be sure to come see you at the PnP booth.

I am out on the Saturday event. I have a conflict that I cannot get out of.

I'll be at the Summit Wednesday-Saturday... Would love to meet some of the other board members...
