AOPA Magazine on Tablets & e-Readers

Greetings !
I switched from the print version to the online version with the hope of not stacking up piles of paper. The stack is gone, but I still find myself way behind on my reading. I have tried to read AOPA on my laptop... in a word, eh! Anyone have a better experience via tablets or eReaders ?

I tried searching the forum, but terms like "magazine", "AOPA", and the like doesn't make the haystack much smaller. I apologize if this is the 1000th thread of this ilk.
 
I recently signed up for the first time and chose the electronic option.

Personally I prefer reading on my iPad to paper books/magazines but I know some people don't like it because of screen glare or backlighting. There are anti-glare screen covers and you can always crank the brightness down if that's an issue.

I work with and play with computers so much that I've long since burned out whatever nerve causes screen fatigue though. :D
 
I use the AOPA eMag program on my iPad. Works fine. Do want to be in range of wifi if you want to view the online videos.

Same experience here...

The iDevice app is kinda nice to easily find back issues that you either missed or lost.
 
I switched to the electronic for the same reasons mentioned by others. I have to say, the magazine is breathtakingly gorgeous on the iPad. The photography just pops off the screen.

That said, I still haven't made the complete mental transition to the electronic version, and find myself getting behind on reading them. It's not like I can leave my iPad on the back of the toilet all the time!! I remain hopeful I can ultimately make the full transition.
 
Thanks everyone. I've read good things about the iPad version. I have a bit of an aversion to Apple. They've become like Microsoft in some ways. However, because of the "closed" hardware environment support and quality of apps, especially for aviation, seem to be higher on iOS than on Android. I presume that AOPA forces Android users on to the browser since there's no native Android app.
 
I'm trying hard to switch 100% to my iPad for all my reading materials. My wife hates my pile of magazines. AOPA mag is pretty good, the app has had some issues, but mostly works well. The reading experience is great for me, particularly after upgrading to the Retina display version. My only complaint now is I'd like all my magazines to be in one app.
 
I was an early adopter of the electronic version. The app was terrible so I got frustrated and stopped messing with it. I'll have to give it another shot.
 
Too dang expensive to give my iPad to the library or dentist office every year, like I do the pile of paper magazines. :D

I noticed they just updated the app yesterday. I haven't had any issues with, so not sure what they may have addressed. I didn't bother looking at the details.
 
The iOS app sucked when first released with multiple bugs and an idiotic password scheme which soured me on it. Nonetheless I didn't bother to switch back to paper.

A couple of months ago I tried the newer version and most issues had been resolved including easier password access. Pretty painless. I'm back to reading again.

Though, I have to say that I'm behind because when the magazine arrives in your USPS mailbox it is calling to you to be read. Electronically speaking you have to be more motivated to get in there to peruse.

Plus you can't leave the electronic version around on your coffee table to impress guests :rolleyes: ;)
 
The AOPA's android support is lacking. I either need to be assimilated into iOS or go back to paper. iOS is just so spendy and inflexible.

I'll have to see if it fixes my latest bug -- there are 4 pages of the current magazine issue that won't load. I've even deleted and re-downloaded the issue, but it didn't help.

I just got a popup notice on my iPad telling me to NOT install the Nov 27 release, and that another update will be out shortly. It's already installed but I haven't used, but they must have found a major bug.
 
I've switched to the electronic version and peruse it much less than I did the paper. I find it less easy to find and flip to a given story, and some stories I don't read in any version - I don't know, the electronic is fine for searching but not for browsing in my own experience. But, I'm old fashioned and likely out of sync.

I haven't received such a pop-up, but apparently I have the latest version.

Same problem on my Ipad 2, and some pages are partially Grayed out ie block of gray on the screen covering the page.

I just got another update for the app on my iPad....second one in a week, I think.
