Anyone looking for another pilot or safety pilot to fly with in the Charlotte area? Looking for creative ways to log hours and keep flying while keeping costs down and meeting other pilots.

Me: 34 year old PPL holder with about 70 hours in Cessna 152/162/172 and Diamond DA20 A/C. Previously a C-130 Navigator in the Air Force with about 1500 hours, mostly low level and IFR flying and did my AF flight training in the T-6 Texan II and T-1 (Beechcraft 400A). Will be starting my Instrument license this fall in Asheville, NC (KAVL).

If anyone else has some creative ways to keep flying, I'm all ears. Thanks!

Why Asheville for the IFR? I may be interested, need to get back on my IFR training.

I'm still in the Air National Guard and get SOME tuition assistance for follow on training at 141 schools. AVL is the closest 141 school so I've got some funding up there. Wish there was a 141 school in Charlotte.

Where are you located?

Ryan, adding you to the list of local peeps. trying to get a bunch of us to meet up at the pik-n-pig at BQ1 on 9/23, please join us!

if youre a nav, apply for a UPT rated board with any heavy guard res unit that is hiring and is offering a rated board, though you'll probably need a waiver for commissioned years. age gets taken care of already since you're a prior rated aircrew, I think thats still the case. what you should have done was apply for upt boards while you were in active duty, especially these days, but thats water under the bridge at this point.

good luck to ya. I understand the aversion to going through upt as a 30 some year old, being berated by people 10 years your junior. but it's the best training and leg up one could hope for as a professional pilot.

Not sure I'll be able to make it as its next weekend, but appreciate it. Can you add me to your distro? Ryan.wagner at Mac dot com. Thanks!

Ryan I just occasionally create threads on PoA and try to get some of the local hooligans to meet up. hasn't been super successful yet, we had one good one at FQD a coupl'a months ago.

I commissioned late in my career, at 10 1/2 years and now sit at 17 1/12. I'm 2 1/2 years away from my 20 year retirement eligible and the NCANG is currently transitioning to C-17s, which is why I am no longer a Nav. I flew as a Loadmaster for 6 years and a Nav as 6 years. I loved flying with the military but it was time for something new and I am now an Intelligence Officer. Age and commissioned service time were both factors but sending me to UPT with as many years as I've got didn't make sense for the unit. I'd be coming home from UPT as a Major with 20 years and punching out.

I did gain a lot of experience over the years that has transferred directly into GA. I finished up my PPL in minimum time and feel safer than I would with 40 hours off the street. I don't have high aspirations to be a regional bus driver. I simply want to continue to enjoy flying and maybe take my family to the beach as much as I can afford and time will allow.

I don't think so, I usually just post in the 'cool places to fly' subforum but I also think some people post in the 'flight following' sub forum.

You could click on @eman1200 under his very flattering picture and click Follow.

Never know what you may and up reading, but it's fun.

Hey all, I have since joined a flying club in south Charlotte (Jaars) located at N52. The flying is cheap and always looking for a reason to go fly.

If anyone is in the Charlotte area and would like to split time, let me know! The 172 I have access isn't pretty but she's safe and very affordable.

Sent you a PM.

Thanks for the heads up man

Hi Ryan (or any of the other Charlotte folks on here) I need to get about 8 more hours under the hood and am looking for a safety pilot. I'm based out of Rock Hill (KUZA) if anyone is interested.

When would you like to fly?

Do you have a plane/access to a plane at KUZA? I'm in Waxhaw, so not far at all. Would be happy to sit in the right seat while you get your foggle on!
