Old-style marker beacon antenna. Had one of those put on our old C-150E in 1969 when the marker beacon was installed to make it a super IFR trainer (alongside the 90-channel Mark 12). No ADF installed.

The newer ones are styled as a 10" long plastic fin.

The actual name is "SLED" marker beacon antenna. Pretty nifty adaptation of what ham radio operators call a "J" antenna (for obvious optical reasons).
