Planning a short VFR cross country flight to San Gabriel Valley (KEMT) from the northwest.

Can anyone familiar with the airport provide some guidance as to:
- which runway is prevalent ( 01 or 19 )?
- what are the common VFR pattern entry instructions (from the northwest)?
- any common reporting points approaching the field VFR?

Thanks!

PS - My general plan without any local knowledge would be basically this:
KCMA VPLSS VPLTW VPLRB VPLRT KEMT

19 is the prevalent runway. From the NW, expect a right base entry from the Santa Anita Racetrack.

Be mindful of the Class B boundaries to the south.

Thank you!

Roger the Bravo boundaries. That is why I was planning a Rose Bowl to Santa Anita Racetrack course to keep north of the Bravo, and cruising at 5,500 to stay above the KBUR Charlie.

Thanks again!

Should have also asked about typical departing procedures for VFR as well!

Any guidance on how to plan / what to expect for a VFR departure to the west?

Just get flight following on the ground before takeoff and head for just north of KBUR. There is a small montain ridge you have to go north of (to follow the 210 freeway) or just south of that puts you KBUR airspace untill you can climb out of it. Watch of for TFR's over the rose bowl for concerts or sporting events.

If there are not much winds I like to hug that mountain on the South/West side over BUR transitioning that area between EMT and BUR. Keeps ya outa BUR arrivals and departures pathways and typically little other traffic vs higher and north of that ridge.

As mentioned, just pick up FF and be ready to have your head on a swivel and a lot of quick radio work. There is a ton of transitioning IFR and VFR traffic in the EMT area.

You don't need to stay above the BUR Class C, you can almost always transition through the Class C, going right over VNY and ~right over or just south of BUR, altitude as assigned/restricted. You can start at 5,500 and tell them you want a to begin VFR descent through the Class C. They will try to accommodate so you don't have to do a slam-dunk approach.
