Yeah okay okay, I know thats a large group of people but specifically I have had a hell of a time getting the FAA Sac FSDO to contact me back with a date for a CFI Initial Checkride...Spoke initially to the Operations Supervisor and he said he would get back to me but now three messages and two emails in 3 weeks and nothing...

Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this at the moment.

and now

The last time I left a message at the Sac FSDO it took them 4 months to return the call. But they did return it.

Sounds like a local problem -- call the FSDO and ask to speak with the Manager. If doesn't get a response, contact the Western Pacific Region office at (310) 725-7200 and explain your problem to them. IIRC, the standard of performance on this is for the FSDO to provide within 3 weeks of the request either a test date or authorization to go to a DPE.

Well I was explaining to the supervisor when we did speak that while a DPE would be an option I strongly preferred the FAA so I didnt have to fork out $500 for the checkride. Maybe once he heard that he realized work would be involved and thus decided to ignore me?! :dunno:

You could try a 141 school with self examining authority.

:)

That's your problem right there. If the FSDO is farming out CFI intitial rides to DPEs, and you're insisting on doing it with an FAA inspector, your priority is somewhere just after cleaning out the office fridge.

Spend the bucks, take the ride, or go to another FSDO if you must.

Doc Bruce says it's like a walk in the park.

Brad is correct. If they are farming them out, it's because they haven't the resources to do them in house in the required time frame. You can wait and get it free eventually (and that could be a very long time) or pay the assigned DPE and get done soon. Your choice.

and thus the old adage about aviation, and old cars for that matter, always holds true...and the world turns. At least a call back would be nice.

yippie :sigh:

Of course a courtesy call back would be the cordial thing, but they care less about cordiality than all those other things, of course.

I think you may need to consider if in the time it takes you to get your "free" checkride, you could pay $500 for a DPE ride and then earn more than $500.

Well I called again and finally got a call back this morning...mid August was the soonest he could get me in so I got DPE authorization and of course...will pay to play. Somehow I always knew it would turn out this way...

I decided to suck it up and pay the man, Im set for July 22nd little farther out then I would prefer but always more time to study.

UGH...
