Anybody into silver and gold?

Bullwinkle gets it.

In the survival forums, those who think they can procure what they need with force are called raiders.

People who prep have defenses and raiders will be hunted down and shot on sight.
All of those people are retarded. The prep defense guys think they are going to live in a sniper hide pink misting everyone within 1,000 yards are as retarded as the steal everything crowd. Best to be good at leading men or picking men to follow.

In a collapse, better to be a part of a group than a lone wolf. When you're alone, you can't be on guard 24 hours a day. And for those Jeremiah Johnsons, game will be quickly hunted into extinction - you and 10,000 others in one area, all thinking they can live off the land. Every deer and wild hog would be dead and butchered in the first ten days.

They've got some tards for sure, but some of the threads about solar and gardening and water purification ... things like that are pretty good.

Water should be a person's first and foremost concern.

They call it the rule of 3's. 3 minutes without air, 3 days without water, 3 weeks without food.

Post apocalypse I'd rather have a divining rod and a shovel then a solar powered water purification system. Spare parts anyone?

The SF story "Lucifer's Hammer" has what I think is realistic "post apocalyptic" scenario.

Anyway, fine line between reasoned caution and paranoia.

I personally would be hesitant to broadcast how many guns or how much gold or silver I owned (if any) in a public forum. Same with securities held or net worth.

But That's Just Me! (tm)

Oh, just read up on hyperinflation to prove the point that in a financial meltdown, precious metals DO serve as a repository of value. In 1920's Germany, it might take a wheelbarrow full of paper currency to buy a loaf of bread. Yet a single silver mark could do the same thing

Oh, and Karen just pointed me towards this:

Pretty sure I can get Bullwinkle on board. Now how about 15 more at about $100k each.

Or, we could probably lease out the silo for gold and silver and ammo storage to cover mortgage payments.

If no one has snapped it up already.

Snooze and lose and all that!

Divining rod, hehehe... I recently hired a home inspector. While tramping around in the back yard, he held a pair of pliers over his head, flipped around like a divining rod. I made a joke and discovered he was serious! From then on, anything he said was suspect.

Great book! I read it back in the early 80s and loved it. Really good read. More recently I read "One Second After", also very good. Forward by Newt Gingrinch and tells the story of a post-EMP community in North Carolina.

Any of three different things could happen to bring about a grid-down situation:

(1) EMP - this is considered a serious threat by the Defense Dept. and is becoming increasingly threatening due to new agents with weapons and delivery systems

(2) CME - this one WILL happen. We actually dodged a major CME bullet recently. If we take a direct hit, by-by to the electrical grid

(3) Cyber attacks - I'm not sure exactly how this would work (something about targeted strikes ala stuxnet followed by cascading failures) but it would be the easiest and least expensive way for an enemy to do the job

There is one universal constant that transcends time and space and the apocalypse.

Anything you post on POA is wrong. :raspberry:

More porn.

This is one brick of poker chips from a set of five with inlaid pre-1964 coins that fit into a custom poker table. I think it's mahogany, but maybe a wood expert can correct me...

They're very cool and the boys like playing with them. Great conversation pieces. :)

VERY high risk strategy. 40% of people in the US have guns, you are not a super badass just because you have guns. If you have to get in a firefight every time you need something, your survival time will be measured in days or weeks at most.

I know you were (probably) joking, but some people actually think that way and it would end very badly for them.

Maybe he was planning to give some to those idiots in return for their "loyalty". It works today for politicians with money...

The smart ones never plan on doing their own shooting. They send BLM to do it for them. ;)
