and want to take two stupid cats? My daughter and her husband are moving. Long story but she is planning to fly Thursday with one of them as carry on plus their toddler. I told her she is insane.

I'm sorry I did what I don't like other people to do and not spell out the place.:(

Not a problem, I could have looked it up and found out where it is in just a few seconds.....

And yes, some folks will use identifiers like everyone has all of them memorized...:lol::lol:

My beef is mostly with the small GA airport identifiers, I guess I figured everybody knows the big city ones, but that's not true either. Although I bet everybody knows DFW.

Born and raised in Texas, so at least I know where DFW is....:lol::lol:

Oh yeah, that's the airport near T67!

Actually any field in the area would work, but I talked to her today and she has a plan. She will pack small books and stuff for the kid in a tiny bag and hang it next to the cat bag. The cat actually has been spending time in it and seems to love it, so she is hoping it will sleep through the flight. Whatever else she needs will be in the overhead and she can walk the kid up and down the aisle a bit for entertainment. She seems resigned. She says no matter what happens, it will only be three hours out of my life, the kid's life, the cat's life and the other passengers' and airline crew's lives, and then it'll all be over with.

Still horrific, I think I'd give the animal away before doing this. The pet transport service wanted to charge $1000 so that's out. I wouldn't consider checking the animal, I've heard too many horror stories of pets dying in the cargo compartments. They can't travel together because of the job scheduling stuff, so her husband will be bringing the other cat next week. But he'll only have a cat, no kid so will be a piece of cake by comparison.

The airlines won't take pets in checked baggage during the heat of summer and the cold of winter. For good reason.

I travel with my Pomeranian several times per year. She hangs out in her little carrier under the seat and most other passengers don't even know she's there. It's about $150 each way these days. Used to be $75. It's either inflation or she's twice as cute as she used to be.

It only takes 6 months to get a plastic monkey coast to coast................just sayin. :)

For some of us, it is AASL.

East of Midland?

East of the Pecos River anyway. Your not in West Texas until you cross the Pecos, or so I have been told....

Midland is not too bad. I had an aunt and uncle that lived there for many years. I spent a year in Odessa one winter.

Neither Ravioli, it's whatever traffic will bear and pay. See, you did it, it works!

@Rushie -- does "cat bag" equal soft sided cat carrier similar to this?

I've seen one like this used on a commercial flight recently. It was carried on like any other backpack or laptop bag. And the cat inside was totally chill.

Also, has your daughter reviewed what health certificate requirements might exist for this endeavor? I know when we do PnP flights across state borders, we are handed health certificates.

You haven't said what airline they are using, so for example, here is what United has to say about "In-Cabin Pets": https://www.united.com/web/en-US/content/travel/animals/in_cabin.aspx

Do note there is a fee for them to be in the cabin. But it's way less than the pet transporter you referenced.

Yes it's probably a soft bag like the picture you posted. I know she talked to the airline and probably has her ducks in a row as to the requirements. She did mention the fee, can't remember what I was but yes no where near a thousand. It probably is a lot less traumatic for the animal anyway to go with "mommy" for a flight as opposed to being transported in a van for two days by a stranger. It's American Airlines.

I read your link and note service animals are allowed. My sister in law is involved in dog agility competition and they have events all over the country. She says she knows people who get some doctor to sign a form stating their dogs are emotional support animals just so they can bring them into the cabin for free to fly to competitions. She thinks that's an atrocious abuse and I agree.

You're going to have to explain that to me. Beer that's what's coming?
You have to have seen No Country For Old Men. Thats the only clip I could find. It went like this. He's walkin by and she hits on him saying "I have beer in my room."

Edit: wrong clip, that was for another thread.

Now it all makes sense.

Here is her report:

"We survived the trip, thanks to the kindness of strangers and to our wonderful flight attendants on #americanairlines. If you ever need your faith in humanity restored, navigate airport security and a 3 hour flight carrying a cat, toddler, stroller, and backpack. People were amazing!"

She said the cat was totally chill the whole time. It was not a full flight and they had three seats to themselves which ended up being a lifesaver. The baby was fine almost the whole flight but then lost it during descent/landing (ear pain?).
