Bro do you even lift
let's just say ECP -> 5R2 (NW Fla Beaches Int'l to Ocean Springs Airport in MS) looks like some tricky airspace. any suggested routes or tips/tricks?
it looks like there's a training course for Destin/Valparaiso special area traffic rule which I haven't checked yet, maybe that will answer most of my questions, but in the classic un-googling PoA style I figured I'd just ask the group.

Land at lakefront. Go into town. Eat a PoBoy.
Fly home happy.

yep, already in the plans. I'm working on my casino tour of 'murica, or at least the southish eastish portion, and if I'm going to make it to Biloxi u can be damn well sure I'm going to KNEW. love me some n'awlins, casino or not.

Yeah I'm very familiar with the corridor at Destin/Eglin eman as I worked approach/tower at Eglin AFB and flight instructed at both Eglin and Destin. You are required to contact Eglin approach and the freqs are on the charts. There is a training informational handout I'll see if I can find it around here somewhere. ECP easy to get into, just call up approach.

thanks G-money.

File IFR and go. Easy peasy.

I've only gone N-S though to Destin and Pensacola though. :)

Eman, let us know when you're doing this, I love the panhandle of FL and adjacent AL (even if it isn't in the southeast). Be cool to meet up somewhere.

will do. in the early planning stages. want to be ready to go for whenever I decide to jump in the plane and go. trying to find "casinos near airports", currently this is as far as I got:

If ya land at Destin you can use the courtesy car and go get some Gulf seafood there. "Back Porch" pretty good, 5-10 minutes from the airport, right on the beach and if it's warm out when you go many honeys lying and walking right thar in front of you on the beach. Gulf Shores Alabama (that's in the SE BTW) same deal. Should have a car, a 10-15 minute ride into town and a few good places to eat, food that is. Pensacola airport is a bit far from cool stuff, but there is an adjacent mall within walking distance if you fancy that. If you're lucky as you fly by Pensacola you might see the Blue Angels practicing Mobile a long ways from downtown. Biloxi/Gulfport easy to fly into, just don't land at Keesler AFB just to the east KGPT.

most likely won't be landing anywhere except ECP and 5R2. just concerned about passing thru that congested area. but, since you guys both mentioned bee oh oh bee ess, might have to amend my plans.

FWIW I flew through there about 6 years ago, KTLH to KBTR. Eglin Approach was easy to work with. They didn't have to send me around anything that day.

Got to land at 4R9 dauphine island. It's like landing on a carrier as the runway is out into the water. Let me know when you head down here. I'd like to try and meet up. Or if you find yourself crossing KSTF or KGTR let me know. I'll take you to the simulators.

Fixed it for you. You need to hit that 2nd stop to pick up your spotter for the tables.

Aint much ever a Dauphine Island other than the cool landing and good seafood. F and GTR sure there is....ME! boom

@mscard88 when were you at Eglin? I was there from 91 to 96. Got my Commercial SEL and MEL and my CFI through the Eglin Aero Club.

I was there from 70-73. Some of the best tower folks in the business.
There's some stuff flying in that area that can roll you up into a wad of tin foil, toot sweet, and never even know you were there.

Definitely. Sometimes we'd see a fighter from the Test Wing takeoff with strange things hanging on them. Working that tower was like an airshow every day. Loved it.

Eman, what casino are you planning on stopping by at KECP? I live here (panama City) and there aren’t any casinos that I know of. Only thing close is the Ebro greyhound park with some poker games and tournaments at night. Somehow, they have poker but aren’t considered a casino through some loophole here since gambling is still illegal in Florida. (Lotto not included evidently). Still a fun spot to go though. I actually spent my teenage years living about 2 Miles away from the park. Either way, if you do come, be sure to post when and I might be able to give you a ride and tour if you wanted. Sounds like a fun trip for sure.

My first time into Ocean Springs with some friends, going to play cards as well, it was a nice VFR day. Looking at sectional, GPS, i was like well there is supposed to be a runway over there. But all i see is a small forest and a housing development. Hey guys, any of you see an airport, should be over that a way??? That gets some questioning looks from PAX...

Flew right by it. Its cut out of the pine trees, next to the housing development. Oh. Fly a mile, try not to bust the Biloxi airspace, quick U turn and now its time to land. With a 10-20 knot crosswind really puffing. Until you get below those aforementioned pine trees. Then its not so windy. Wasnt my best effort, but we got the bird out again.

Its about a 15-20 ride to the Beau and the rest of the casinos. Have a good trip.

Unfortunately, I was deployed somewhere every time spring break came around.....or so just it seemed!!!

I was with the 59th FS, 33rd FW as a flight line avionics tech. “B Shop” to those in the know.

ECP is my hometown but I only get to visit a few times a year. Still miss PFN! Keep in mind ECP is far from town. From what I remember flying out of PFN, most people took the scenic beach route and just talked to Eglin AFB which pretty much just treats you like flight following. I used to also monitor 122.75 which if I remember correctly is the banner tow/beach frequency.
