Anxiety/BP

Anxiety Question

Is simply mentioning the feeling of anxiety and not being diagnosed with an anxiety disorder enough to be reported on a FAA medical exam?

Also, when is low blood pressure considered reportable?

Thanks

First off....not a doctor....Im what context are you referring to the word “mentioning”. Was it described to a physician? Psychologist? Psychiatrist?

It’s normal human behavior to experience anxiety to some degree. If it was in irrational or excessive amounts about something not rooted in reality then you may have an issue.

I’d double check with your doc of it were mentioned to them. Lord knows what he/she may have documented in your records.

The anxiety of going ot the doctor can often increase blood pressure :)

I believe the FAA has hard limits of 155 systolic and 95 diastolic. However, if you're over the 120 and 80, you probably want to see your regular doctor about doing something about that. The good news is most BP drugs are a yawner when it comes to your medical.

Thanks for your response! It was described to a general physician, and according to my medical records, there was no diagnosis of an anxiety disorder. I had mentioned at one appointment that I felt like I was getting anxiety and palpitations. This was at an annual physical, 2 years ago.

Not medicated.

I guess my question here is, does that FAA distinguish normal anxiety from an anxiety disorder? Thanks :)

I am very circumspect with what I tell my doctor. And that doesn't always help.

The FAA doesn't ask if you've ever felt anxious, it asks if you've ever had a mental disorder, and anxiety is one example of that. So if you've had anxiety that rose to the level of a mental disorder, report it.

I don't know what constitutes "low blood pressure," but if you've ever been diagnosed with low blood pressure, you should disclose it. The AME will take your blood pressure during the exam.
