Just to finish up this thread, I flew with Brooks for my instrument check ride (and passed) and would like to report that I have no regrets. He's kind of gruff but soft at the same time.
The oral portion was intense at 2 full hours but he didn't pull any tricks or try to trip me up on anything. Since I was over prepared, I flew through this portion of the test.
The flight portion was straight-forward as we headed over the Coral Springs practice area for some maneuvers and then up to F45 for approaches.
He explained to me when we sat down that he didn't expect perfection and that minor altitude excursions were to be expected, but cautioned me that more than a few excursions showed lack of control and would be noted in his evaluation.
I would recommend Brooks for an instrument check ride to anyone. He's fair and realistic on what he expects from a pilot that just finished their IR lessons.
