This time the criteria are:

  1. used
  2. single engine
  3. six seat
  4. non turbine

What do you like, and why?

Matrix! Flies high, flies fast, and accommodations are first rate.
:cornut:

Beaver- On Amphibs. If I have to explain you will never understand.

Ben:

Bonanza.

Like the saying goes - you know you want one anyway!

None of the above. I want a Helio Courier.

If you include turbine, either an amphib Caravan or a Sherpa

I know. There's just something about Beechcrafting!

But then again, you give up some speed in the Saratoga, but you get a lot of room. . . .

I like the Cherokee six/lance/Saratoga line for the wonderful room. But they are slowish and need turbos for flying high.

The Beaver is great of course if that's what you need.

For me it would be the 206 for shorter hops and the 210 or Bonanza for longer missions.

Speaking of which...

"Bonanza" is a little too vague.
Turbonormalized A-36

More specifics. Six seats, but how much physical cabin/baggage volume? How important is speed vs space? What kind of range are you looking for? What kind of useful load do you need? Are there any unusual needs, such as short/rough field?

Additionally, why no turbine? A late model Matrix or Bonanza would cost on par with, say, a 10-year-old Meridian. There are also the jetprop conversions of Bonanzas, 210s and Malibus that might warrant consideration, depending on the specifics.

Beaver on amphibs. Has the best recip aircraft engine ever produced and will go anywhere taking anything I want with me.

if i HAD to buy an airplane it would have to have a towhook. so, maybe the 206?

My thought is the TBM850. Because, well, I'm rich (per the subject). And he said used, he didn't say how used. But the Silver Eagle P210 conversion is also a pretty sweet option, and worth consideration.

I'd take a 985 Beaver on Amphibs over a turbine 210/A-36/PA-46 any day of the week and twice on Sunday. If I was rich and was going to be buying something turbine powered with props, it would be an Avanti.

If we open up the turbine box of Pandora, I of course would opt for the PC12.

And while you're an exception, I think for most people, if you're looking at a turbine aircraft you're probably not looking at a piston, and vice versa. But maybe I'm wrong.

The more I look at turbines, the less interested I am in owning them. The costs of ownership are just too high at overhaul or hot section time, and the fuel burn is excessive unless your mission is to go up to the flight levels every time you fly, and you fly long enough legs to make that practical.

But if you open the box enough for a PC12, why not a King Air 200? That, to me, is pretty close to the ultimate family airplane. Assuming cost is not a factor, of course.

Simple. Because the thread question was "I'm rich and I want a single."

Why go low and slow with a small cabin when you can have an Avanti?

All I see is a white box. What gem do you have on floats? :D

And this thread was about singles. Twins? I'll take an A-26, please. :D :D

hey since when does the original question have anything to do with the answer?

Good point...

Now, Ted, you know as well as I do the only person who wants a single is someone who hasn't flown a twin.

 I knew I liked you for a reason, Ken.

Ok, I'm buying a Turbine Commander 1000 instead, because I've flown twins and know they're better.

But I'll probably also get a 421B, or else a 340A and throw a couple of 421B engines on it. Or P-Navajo. Or a Duke. Why? Because I like weird piston engines that scare most people. Then I'll end up selling the Commander because the romance of aviation is in piston twins.

Duke. Man, if I had an A&P/IA, I'd love to own one. Yes, thirsty, a little cramped, but STYLISH!!!!!

But, no, it's a PC12 for me. Comparing a KingAir 200 to a PC12 is like comparing, I dunno, Rosie to Elle MacPherson. IMHO.

They're neat planes, and the people who own them seem to love them and not complain about the maintenance too much. The people who don't own them (and especially the ones who sold theirs) complain more.

See, I think that the PC12 is an ugly airplane. Then again, part of that is because it's got that funny-looking nose with the propeller on it. Planes that big just don't look right as singles to me. The King Air has a classic style about it. There's a reason why Cheyennes and Conquests are only available in limited numbers but everyone and their brother has a King Air.

I don't dispute the capabilities of the Pilatus. They sure are popular in Canada going into the little gravel strips. Go look up this one and check out its history:

They get their use out of it, no question. I guess they trust that PT-6.
