He just retired 10/2 and passed away today.

What an amazing life and career. He was the grumpy old guy on 60 Mins, but I loved to listen to him and his editorials.

It is sad, he was pretty entertaining on 60 mins. I always looked forward to his segment. He always took some little insignificant observation and applied it to his world then ours.

He was a decorated WWII vet having been a journalist for Stars & Stripes. Pretty amazing career.

A guy with his looks would never get on TV today. Sad.

If you see him at the restaurant, just let him eat his meal..

If I see him in a restaurant, I have a hunch I will have joined him. Do they even have restaurants in Heaven? I'm not even sure I'm all that current.

Best opening line for a journalist in the biz... "Did you ever wonder why...?"

Far too few ask that question anymore.

RIP Mr. Rooney.

I was never a 60 Minutes fan, but he seemed like a straight shooter.

RIP.

Rooney had a long career before 60 Minutes even existed.

True, but that is by far what he is best known for. I know it started with "Stars, and Stripes" and continued mainly as a writer for many media bigwigs.

He has a excellent autobiography about his war service.
Didn't think much of Hemingway, and had some personal revelations about the Nazis.
Saw him in the Campmor store in NJ buying some binoculars for a African Safari.
