So my flight to 6Y9 got scrubbed due to red and yellow stuff up there and in Wisconsin. Instead I grabbed a bite to eat with a buddy and we met up with his boss after dinner at his workshop. What's in the workshop? A couple Lotuses (Lotusi?), Triumphs, MGAs and Bs, Jaguars, 34 Fords, about 30 or so cars in total. And then there were the two oldest ones. A pair of 1906 Ford Model N. Pretty decent shape too, for being 107 years old. No magnetos. Runs on coils, no charging system. When the battery dies, that's it. Oh yeah, and the oil system - open. No return lines, no filter, and the engine oil also serves as lubricant for the transmission. It "leaks" out of the case (and cylinders), drips onto a catch pan and then onto the tranny, and then just gets sprayed wherever. The engine doesn't cool that well, and so we run it with the engine compartment open, and it gets, everywhere. Fun ride though.

Ummm... seriously... pictures dude. We need pictures. If riding in a Model N Ford doesn't warrant the use of your phone's camera, I don't know what does.;)

Its a well known fact that England doesn't have a dust problem....

Can you imagine how bad it would be if all the cars we drive now just flung the used oil on the ground? What a nightmare. Fortunately, there were better engineers out there at the time than Henry Ford.

Most of the WW1 rotary airplane engines also had an open oil system.

Yep, because modern Fords have the exact same oil system. :D

You'll never see a British car rust. They have a continual coating of oil on exterior surfaces. Gaskets? We don't need no stinking gaskets! :D
