After an exhaustive poll in this thread, the flashchat events committee has decided that my graduation party on November 29. current plan is some sort of get together at the airport in a (heated) hangar. Anyone who wants to come please chime in here. you all are invited. Ill probably invite other family/friends of course.

Chris Jones is event weather coordinator and promises that your flight will be Ice Free, unless you use a mac.

I'll check my calendar as I have a meeting in Grand Caymen that month and will be on the island for a couple of weeks. But I am unsure of the dates. I know I am back before Thanksgiving though.

I want to come, but if Scott invites me to Grand Cayman with him, I won't be able to make Iowa! :)

Scott this is the weekend after Thanksgiving.

I would say I was coming, but then no one else would show up.

Maybe if I said I was bringing Kathleen...

It's on my calendar...just keep reminding me.

Ditto. BTW I recently ran into a meteorology student at UoI at a local hardware store where he was installing plates on his little "Smart" car.

Well, let me see what I can do.......

It's on my calendar, Tony, keep on reminding me! I'll see if I can make it!

I just realized that this is two days after Thanksgiving. We'll probably be in Alabama then.

My thumb is out.
104% sure I won't have a plane by then.

Tony,

Will try to be there, hopefully with the new plane. :fcross:

Most likely a Seneca. We've got a few lines and have been through a couple of inspections. There is some real junk out there and the process is taking longer than we'd hoped.

We tried to justify a 414 or a 421, but the number of times we need the capacity just weren't there. We've been chartering hours on a 414, cheyenne III, and a C90 as needed and that will continue as necessary. I do love flying in the cheyenne, but the dollars get crazy in a hurry.

What I'm struggling with most is that while I'm thrilled that the company is willing to get into this position and it is so gratifying to be the pilot - it is much easier(and safer, I think) to ride in the back.

james i hope you can make it.

i have done basically zero planning for this but lets plan on a get together of some sort.

Chris you have to come, you're in charge of weather.

Who else is planning on it?

Tony, I will plan on it, but my schedule will dictate if I can actually make it or not.

If I can grab the Mooney (which I am trying to negotiate right now) you've got a ride with me. Stay tuned, I should know pretty soon. The annual is due that month, and initially they were going to do it Thanksgiving weekend. I'm going to attempt to talk him into doing it ahead of time so that I can take it out. The Archer's already booked.

EDIT: I talked to my friend and we're going to attempt to get the annual done earlier so that I can fly it out. Of course, then it becomes WX permitting, ice being my primary concern. Mooney + Ice = Rock. So Ed, you can plan on hitching a ride with me. I'll let you know if plans change.

Thought it might not be a bad idea to have a table like what we did for 6Y9, so let me start with what I have here:

[row][cell]Name[/cell][cell]A/C Type[/cell][cell]Tail #[/cell][cell]Home Field[/cell][cell]Camp/Indoor (???)[/cell][/row]
[row][cell]Ted[/cell][cell]Mooney M20F[/cell][cell]N7785M[/cell][cell]KIPT[/cell][cell]Couch/Hotel/Floor[/cell][/row]
[row][cell]Ed[/cell][cell]Mooney M20F (with Ted)[/cell][cell]N7785M[/cell][cell]KGRR (???)[/cell][cell]???[/cell][/row]

To add your info, copy the code below, insert your information, and enter in just before the "[/table]" tag. If you need to leave an area blank, simply insert a period between the "cell" tags for that area:

HTML:
[row][cell]Your Name[/cell][cell]Your A/C type[/cell][cell]Your Tail #[/cell][cell]Your Home Field[/cell][cell]Your accommodations[/cell][/row]

Ok I looked at my Nov. sked and this date looks possible. We sometime duck out of town for the holiday and that could affect our availability.

camping is not going to be an option. for one thing its going to be freezing cold. Maybe ill try to put together a Pirates of America group at a local hotel or something.

Tony,

That place we stayed at the Glide-a-thon last year was nice and had reasonable rates. I think it was the Grandstay.

I'll do whatever I can to make it, but I don't know where I'm gonna be in November. :dunno:

Tony, I'm sorry we won't be able to make it. That's the holiday that we always have a lot of family here at the farm for several days.

Certainly a hotel in Ames would be more convenient, but I'm actually playing with the idea of staying at Alexis Park in Iowa City. Yeah, it's 95NM out, but it's aviation themed and owned by a PoA member!

Yeah, I just copied that code direct from the 6Y9 thread and I really didn't know what options would be available.

Maybe ill try to put together a Pirates of America group at a local hotel or something.

Does that mean I have to paint the Mooney black with a skull and crossbones instead of a thunderbird on the tail and change the tail number to "314RT"? :dunno: It does need a new paint job, though, so that would be cool.

I am fine with a couch, floor, Motel 6, whatever. While Grant's idea is nice (and I would love to give Jay the business and see his place), I would rather be closer to the festivities. Tony, if you arrange a block of rooms at a local hotel, that would be fine for me.

The Grandstay that we were in last year is my preferenence. Affordable and a nice 'suite' setup.

To be honest, I think I've come to that conclusion, too. I DO want to get a fly-in together at Jay's place one of these days, though!

And if we do, I'll be there!

Wait, where DON'T I fly to? ;)

Count me as a maybe. I can hardly think that far ahead...

I could pick you up in the Mooney if you want, it's not far out of my way. :)

Hmmm, that's really tempting. 1350NM is quite a ways, though.....

Maybe we could plane pool if someone from California or one of the other states wanted to attend....

Ooh, that is quite tempting. A Mooney or a classic 172B? What do I do?

I will keep you updated!

The Mooney's better/faster/stronger. :D

I will keep you updated!

Sounds good! Knowing how I am, you can call me en-route to Iowa and I'll come pick you up with no advance notice. The precedent has been set for me doing similar pick-ups already. ;)

But having an idea by mid-November would be preferable. :)

OK - who hasnt gotten a hotel yet? I suspect its most of you? I will call to the Grandstay tomorrow and see if I can get a block of rooms for us when I have an idea of how many I need.
