American (Airlines) Experience

The DL phone app is the best of the lot. It actually works, and is timely.
I agree about the phone app. I especially like the way they track luggage. One time my bag got on an earlier flight so I knew not to look for it on the carousel, but to look in the unclaimed area.

I frickin LOVE traveling by train. I miss it so much. Almost as much as GA flying.
Took the train from Denver to Buffalo a few years ago to visit relatives. Reasonably good food (understand that’s changed with the new CEO), comfy sleeper, no rocking at all. Didn’t tell the relatives that I got off at Chicago, picked up a rental car and spent 3 days at OSH, then continued on to Buffalo. Even with the additional cost of a sleeper, about the same as airline.

Down side, to get a sleeper at a reasonable rate, need to book a year in advance.

Flew home on Southwest.

The last I looked at trains, the options are very slim. They don't go everywhere anymore, and like you said, you have to book ridiculously early.

My wife and I took Amtrak from DC to Tampa and back 4-5 years ago for Thanksgiving with a sleeper car. Food was OK but not spectacular. The view was tree tree tree tree tree road tree tree tree...... repeat. I suspect it would be better out west. Coming back we packed a picnic basket with wine/snacks and listened to podcasts and read and it was more fun.

It took something like 20 hours but you were asleep for 1/2 of it and it wasn't the mile high club but it was a fun check in the block so to speak. :D

an airline just handing you a seatbelt extender is just asking to get sued by someone. i can see the youtube post now, "xxxx airline embarassed me saying i was fat"

well...except for that he mentioned he never has to ask on other carriers.
