Altimeter bugs?

One of the better tricks I learned from a corporate pilot was to use the ring on your CDI for altitude reminder.
(This is when navigating with anything other than VOR's of course which is about 100% of the time I am flying).

I have gotten in the habit to just move my right hand up and twist heading bug then CDI for Altitude before read back of heading & altitude changes.


Probably don't want to using CDI if on a instrument approach for altitude reminder.
I have one, installed by PO, I've started using it, the good thing about it is you don't have to take your eyes off panel, kinda of important when in IMC. Not a must have by any means.
 
There used to be a device that worked like an umpire's clicker. Velcro'd to your panel, you just move the thumbwheel to show the number.

But it must not be in production anymore because I can't find even when applying google-fu
