When we get to Anchorage in June, we would like to take one day to fly the Bonanza up to the Denali area and fly around the mountains. Leslie would like to arrange to find a CFI that is familiar with the area and with mountain flying that could go with us.

She is ok with the 3,500 or so miles to get us to Anchorage, but that last 150 miles has her a bit concerned.

Anyone have any recommendations?

You'd be better off parking at Talkeetna and climbing onto a Talkeetna Air Taxi, Fly Denali, K2, etc Beaver or Otter and let a pro flightseeing pilot take you around the mountain so you can enjoy the scenery. Even land up on the Ruth Glacier for a walk about.

I agree with Stewart. There can be a lot of traffic around the mountain, and there are a lot of reporting points, and a lot to see.

A 3rd vote for the flight seeing ops out of Talkeetna. It would be a pretty cool adventure to fly your own plane around Denali, but an even better one, IMO, to hitch a ride with a pro and enjoy the scenery.

Another vote for going the professional sightseeing route. Would probably be cheaper in the long run, to say nothing about the issues of mountain flying that can bite you if you're not used to dealing with them - weather, but especially winds, can be a nasty surprise at times.
