airplane repo is faker than I thought

I get stuck watching the show for entertainment (and comedy) purposes, but I am amazed at how many of my non pilot friends approach me all excited about this show,:mad2: then I spend equally as much time as the show itself discussing (explaining) whats not right about it. Same with that other one, I think its dangerous flights or plane extreme......but I somehow still find myself watching it.

I just watch it and shake my head.

My wife thinks they really are going through all that ****....

So yes, there are people out there who don't give a second thought to what they see on TV as being 'real.' They just assume it is since it's on TV. I have to explain every ****ed up thing they get wrong to her. She doesn't know a pitot from a prick. Well, maybe she knows that one, but she's dumb when it comes to TV.

I suppose there are people who think that professional wrestling is real, too.

Maybe it's a good thing if people think that GA airports are super secure - it might keep them from lobbying for onerous and futile Homeland Security restrictions.

I caught the last 5 minutes of the season opener, set my DVR to record the series. I sat through maybe 15 minutes of the first show, it used to be so bad I watched to see what happens next, this was so bad I just deleted the series!! Guy walking along the ramp at an airshow, sees the airport manager walking towards him and mumbles something to the effect, "she could have me locked up" :dunno: For what?? A bad haircut?? :nono:
It's just too bad for me to watch!! And I'll watch some crap if it's got airplanes!:D

Maybe they should add a laugh track to it.

I wish I would have taped a repo how they really work 99% of the time: Meet the owner at the hangar/ramp (most are on the ramp because they can't afford any of their bills), they hand me the keys and a folder of logs. We shake hands, I preflight thoroughly and head to wherever the custodian keeps the planes. Ooooo, so dramatic. Then there are the out of annual ones, you can catch a shot of a Fax machine spitting out a Special Flight Permit and an A&P signing it off, pretend it's a warrant for the plane's arrest.

Where's the fun in that? You mean you don't sneak around in the middle of the night, hook up a tug, and tow the plane down the street while being chased by an angry boyfriend as you yell insults over your shoulder? Dang, the life of a repo man isn't all glamor and excitement like I thought.

Just don't forget the repo code: "I shall not cause harm to any vehicle nor the personal contents thereof, nor through inaction let the personal contents thereof come to harm."

Yeah - for most "reality shows" the majority of the video of a REAL job would be more like, "What do you want to do today?", "I don't know, what do YOU want to do today?", "Mexican for lunch?", "Nahh, how about Chinese this time?"

It is but don't ask.
He will refuse to talk about it until after it airs.
He had to sign about 30 pages of documents discussing what happens if he discusses the episode prior to it showing.

Seems that is the one thing they are very serious about.
All I know came from a Facebook post that he was forced to remove.

Ask him on Saturday.

Is he free to discuss it after the episode airs?

I would love to read the REAL story from somebody involved in one of those episodes.

I hope he'd be willing to spill some of the dirt.

I believe so. He basically said "I am not allowed to discuss until after it airs"
I plan on calling him after to see what he can / will share.

This Friday at 9 on airplane repo, my friends stearman (picture a few posts above)
is going to be really repossessed for real by a real repo crew on a real TV show for real not fake at all

I'll watch it. I hope I scheduled the right episode. It says it comes on at 10:02 (???), which means you're probably on Central Time. There's also 2 other shows earlier that day.

Sooo, no one is going to mention the episode with the drug smuggling jet? You know, the one where the DEA met them as they landed and lit up the plane with the lasers. And the cameramen on the ground were still able to record everything. Despite all of that, I still catch it every week. I wish The Aviators was available in my area.

What's for lunch? Would be the entirety of every "reality" show if reality was real.:rofl::rofl:

It was pretty cheesy last season, and judging from last week's episode they have gone way far over the top now. I'll probably watch the next episode, but doubt I'll stick with the series. I liked that some of the footage was from the area where I grew up, but that isn't enough to overcome the WWE-worthy plot lines.

WWE is the biggest grossing thing in entertainment, is it any wonder?

The Aviators is available online and PBS if you're stateside.
It's not available on my local PBS station. As for the web site, IIRC you needed a subscription for it. I have Hulu+, so hopefully they will get posted there the day after airing.

And looking closely those lasers were from flashlights, not gunsights. Very big difference.

Exactly. And if they can re-po a Kardashian plane, then we might have the ultimate reality show! :rolleyes2:

All these shows have crew on the ground filming them arrive and depart which means they are shooting these TO / landings multiple times.

And even then, some of the ops don't look too great after c attempts lol.

I will say this. This thread may have spawned more viewers as part of the "Streisand Effect" sort of. Now I want to watch an episode fri just to see if they "repo" it. I gave up when I watched one episode. When they insisted that millionaires constantly fly their citations around without transponders, low and slow, to keep them from getting repoed. Lol.

I turned it off after an episode showing a turboprop startup...the sound effect used was clearly a piston...

Or something was terribly wrong! Lol

There is an aviation show on youtube. I have not watched it, so know nothing of it, only that it is out there.

Tony

There are a couple worth watching. One fake, the other seems a little more reality. Dangerous Flights is the fake one although not as bad as Repo. Worst Place to be a Pilot is the realistic one.

Wait, you mean broke millionaires don't burn tons of JetA shuffling citations from field to field in the dead of night? Why I'm shocked!:lol:

Talk about selling out and selling your soul.

The Kennedy guy and the other redneck guy are the laughing stock of the aviation world.

Laughing all the way to the bank I guess, but it's sickening to see the things people will do on TV for fifteen minutes of fame and some greenback's. I have more respect for a prostitute. At least you're getting an honest deal. :rolleyes2:

Watched 10 mins of an episode and thought it just down right terrible. I also happened to watch the part that was filmed at my home field (KHSD, Sundance OKC) during an airshow that I was at. I guess I was there at a different time then the guy hiding behind planes with binoculars or stealing fuel trucks to get to the hanger with an SR22 out front.

Did some Goggling and found some Facebook ads. https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=1540184382868190

I guess they recruited Heather Sterzick to be on the show.. although I still think she's involved out at Sundance.

With Kennedy looking like saddle bag leather, and Lacy looking like Wild Bill Hickock, they need to add some T and A.

Like 'flying Alaska' or whatever it was.

Everyone was tuning in just to look at the cute eskimo girl because the episodes were redundant.

This is a cable show, they pay crapola. You know American Choppers right? The person getting the bike not only pays an exorbitant price for the bike, they have to pay for the production of the show as well!
By the time this one was done it was a quarter million dollars.

Well I must say today's episode is shaping up to be quite possibly their largest load of utter fictional bull**** yet. Absent anything else on TV, it is mild entertainment.

That was my cfi flying the stearman but his name isn't Jeremy.
And well it is all b.s. lol

1/4 mil and the best they could do was a couple of 2x4s and a ratchet strap connected to the blinker to put it on?

More evidence of noticeable hooey...

Kevin Lane picks up the girl somewhere in Collin County (check Google Maps for reference).

Points to Sectional that they are going to meet up "at an airport about 20 miles west" of where the defunct flight school is. My guess that will be 0F2, Bowie Municipal in Bowie, TX

As they pull up to the airfield, the little tag in the corner says they are in "Floyd County, TX) and it's been about 4 hours of driving.

Ummmm... No. Not possible to drive from DFW to Floyd County, which is near Lubbock, TX in four hours. https://goo.gl/maps/yiXbT And no way is that close to DFW or 0F2.

I just watched tonite's episode. What I wanna know is where the airstrip is located in LA. supposedly near Alexandria where the R44 was stashed. There's a bunch of derelict Bonanzas, Travel Airs etc sitting in a line with the engines pulled...Sad to see. And of course, Mike Kennnedy, adreneline junkie and repo man, sneaking thru the bayous, dodging gators, to get to that camo'd chopper, knew just where to look in the shop hangar thru all the junk, to find the landing gear dollies for it.

And the part with the $150,000 Stearman :lol: ($150,000? maybe with a 450 Pratt, 4 ailerons, and a full smoke/inverted system) ...oh well. Heather takes her boots off before getting into the front cockpit. Smart....maybe she could log dual while getting paid a few bucks for her performance while riding with the CFI. Precious. In the meantime, Kevin is hunting for a battery, checking the voltage, installing it, safety-wiring it in place, and throwing open the hangar doors. Is he an A&P? After all, he had a socket, ratchet, safety wire and a pair of twisty pliers in his handy dandy backpack, I suppose.

And if I remember correctly, Danny the Tattoo Target is from my neck of the woods near Charlotte, and I believe is one of those real rasslers you see on TV doing those storylines and exhibitions.

Wow...that's all gotta be real...never knew it was this exciting.:D

This show is like Howard Stearns overall approval ratings.

50% who love it want to see what they'll do next ..

50% who hate it want to see what they'll do next..
