The flight was:

Victoria BC via Horizon to Seattle
Seattle via AlaskaA to Dallas
Dallas via AEagle to Midland.
The bag did not arrive.

Pinged AE all day long, no bag.
They said call Alaska and I did; they disavow any knowledge, say keep at American.
Digged deeper into American, they say they just never got the bag from Alaska.

Aggghhh Any insider tips on finding lost bags?
I can't believe they don't scan these things to track their progress, (it could even be passive)

How long has it been missing?

If the bag is left unclaimed it WILL get scanned. Then if there is a trace on it the computer will show it and then it gets routed.

I hope you had your name on it and inside a copy of itinerary as that helps.

My last lost bag went really well. The UAL flight I had from SEA to ORD was delayed and the UAL put me, without me asking, on an Alaska flight to ORD. I got in less than 30 minutes late. But no bag at Alaska. They put a trace on it and immediately got a ping from UAl saying it was on carasol 9 in terminal 1. I ran over and got it.

Lsot bag before then was UAL to LHR and then BA to Madrid. The bag did not make it to Madrid and it took British Air 3.5 days to get it to me. Fishpoops! It showed up on their system the first day, they were jsut a bunch of lazy butts and did not get it onto a plane for several days due to all the other bags they had misdelivered/lost.

Make sure you got your trace in with AE!!! Keep calling them. That is about all you can do.

I remember the time I ended up in Manila and my bags ended up in Seattle. But the best story is when I landed at LaGuardia, and my bags ended up in Newark -- an airport to which that airline didn't even go.

Dave:

Tell your Dad that clean underwear is substantially overrated...

...maybe he can borrow some from Ronnie...

From KC, I went to Puerto Rico, golf bag went to Portland. All other luggage arrived as expected. Go figure.

Yes, Dad's.
Lost exactly 23 hours at the moment.
Name on 2 individual external tags.

Its just so bafflling; this should be rocket science.....an unclaimed bag shows up - I can think of only one reasonable thing that ought to happen!

Today's last flight is landing now, they promised to call by 10

hehehe somewhere I have a link to a site that has ALL of the "genius" commercials on it.
I don't think they have Mr. Certified Flight Instructor, but they do have Mr. Discount Airline Pilot Guy!:rofl::rofl:

(And for a few of our folks here, ...)

Tell them there is explosives in the bag and it is really in their best interest that they find it and return it to you.

Not good! It'll get blown up, not returned. Then, the visit with the FBI / TSA will ensue.

Yeah, but then you can claim it was $2500 worth of stuff in the bag, and make $$ on the deal. :D

Unless it was $4500 worth of stuff and you hit the liability cap! (Which I thought was a lot lower than $2500!)

I thought the last time I flew with NWA it was $2500. I looked at it because I had close to $2000 worth of equipment in my bat bag, and $2500 is ringing a bell for some reason.

Could be. I fly commercially as little as possible! I just had a recollection of it being around $500. :) But my Google-Fu is finding liability limits of around $2200 to $3300, so your $2500 is in line with that.

They found it at 24h, and fedexing it here tomorrow.
Who knows whose fault it was.
Total time spent on phone...3hours
I have a page full of phone numbers, websites, bag and file numbers, claim numbers.
All over a jar of jam.
They made him check it because it was explosive.

Huh? Is this because it's a "gel"? Holy mackerel... we're getting to be a paranoid society.

So they still let you put it on the airplane, even though it "might be" explosive? Oh, they were worried he might try to "light it"? (sigh)

Don't ever pack fudge. It shows up like C4 on their machines. Lead crystal does, too.

Sorry, really, it just sorta jumped out there.

Really.

Sorry.

The passengers of USA 1549 are just getting their stuff back. Now, this is 5 months later. It should put some timeframe on how long you might have to wait.

For completeness' sake be advised the wayward luggage arrived today by Fedex, that was about 30 hrs since missing. No great loss,....just more wrinkles! (the brow, not the clothing)

(Help needed with apostrophe and ses above.)
[Help needed with plural of the letter s.]

Dave, I think you did it right, but you could always do an end-around and just type, "....for the sake of completeness..." and miss the whole issue.

But that would, I guess, be cheating.

FWIW it was AWE1549, and the only reason it took so long is that the FAA/NTSB had to weigh everything to make sure they were within W&B limits. Normal lost bag claims don't take all that long...usually.

I'd just spell it completeness'ss'. That way I know it's wrong, but everything is covered. :D
