Aircraft Engine Fail Part 1 and 2

Great example of keeping a cool head and making use of ATC's help.

Thanks for sharing!

Great post! And awesome he made it. I did the same with a G1000 using the required descent to make the airport (except mine was simulated). Really amazing technology we have. It makes situations like these end up so much better. At an airport, instead of some field.

Good job by the pilot. It seemed like he really knows his plane and its systems.

Question about engine design on this...

How was he able to continue making power on 3 of the cylinders instead of losing all of them?

The failure was a loss of boost (disconnect between turbo and intake manifold)

Potentially, all of the cylinders could generate power at that point, but several of the the plugs fouled to the point that they wouldn't fire. The engine was still turning and generating power, but not boosting. And he had to play with the mixture to get it close enough to fire any of the cylinders.

I asume the fuel injection system was measuring the air going into the turbo and was way-over fueling the engine.

Thanks for the post. I am glad that the pilot kept calm.
