Airbus A320 Down

Since Lufthansa is the parent company, and Lufthansa owns Lufthansa Tecknik, a huge MRO for Airbus, I hardly see Lufthansa taking shortcuts on maintenance.

Couple that with the LBA and I don't believe oversight is a problem. :rolleyes:

Lufthansa is not the Corporation it once was, neither is the economic situation in Germany. They need to compete with Ryan Air on these routes and have to stay profitable by mandate. Lufthansa has fallen just like the American majors have.

So, they leveled off and the fo said he had to go to the hopper. Out he went and then upon wanting to return he could not get in the cockpit! The plot thickens.

I was just reading that. In our terrorism fears have we now made a terrible blunder by having a cockpit door that can only be opened by the other pilot? What if he's incapacitated? Another thing, I heard the door opens automatically in case of depressurization, so that would rule out a catastrophic such event.

The plot thickens indeed.

This is not true. There is an alternate method for opening the door.

There just has to be a way for the pilots to be able open the door from the outside.

Strange.....I thought Germany was doing quite well under Merkle. Reports indicate that Germany is at the top of the heap in the EU and well under control. The airline used to train its people right here in the U.S. Is this still true?
 
Bet that locked out pilot was talking to someone by text or cell phone...eight minutes is a long time...

Door malfunction in conjunction with an incapacitated pilot then? It's a stretch, but could happen.

So you're saying door physically blocked and intentional descent? But if one really would want to crash an airplane, then why go down at 3000ft/min? Push it over and get it done.

IF that's what happened, there's no sense trying to make sense out of it.

"The cockpit voice recorder indicates that one of the pilots on Germanwings Flight 9525 was locked out of the cockpit when the plane crashed, a senior military official tells The New York Times."

Apparently the voice recorder shows one of the two pilots beating on the cockpit door trying to get in. Only one person was in the cockpit at the time of the crash.

Sounds like suicide or terrorism. Either way, it's even more tragic knowing a person likely caused this crash intentionally, if that report is correct.

Rotor, as you know, there is also a way to reject that entry.

For those who may not know, In the US when one crew leaves the cockpit we must have a flight attendant in the cockpit with us. Not sure what the German rules are. Even so, not sure that will prevent any mischief.

True.

In Asia, we are suppose to have the FA come forward if one pilot leaves the cockpit, but I've seen that abused several times.

Not sure on the German procedures either. If they follow ICAO there should be a FA in the cockpit.

A senior military official involved in the investigation described “very smooth, very cool” conversation between the pilots during the early part of the flight from Barcelona to Düsseldorf. Then the audio indicated that one of the pilots left the cockpit and could not re-enter.

“The guy outside is knocking lightly on the door and there is no answer,” the investigator said. “And then he hits the door stronger and no answer. There is never an answer.”
 
The pilot and the FA paid for their mistake. Sadly, so did 147 others.

Doubt that rule will be fudged again -- ever.

I remember telling my toddler daughter who was afraid of thunderstorms that the thunder was just the angels bowling.

Sometimes you have to lie to your kids so they feel safe. The governments just don't view us as adults anymore.

Is there wifi on that aircraft?...I have skied not far from there at Val Thorans which it goes to 3000 meters or so pretty sure my cell phone worked as well...I bet there was some sort of alternate communication...may not have happened but possible...
 
Talking heads on CNN are showing a 3 position switch that pilots use to control the cockpit door. Positions are unlock, normal, and lock. Unlock is self-explanatory. Normal means the cockpit door is locked but a pilot can get in with a code and some other unexplained action. When it's in lock position apparently you can't get in the cockpit from outside.
