I'd like to do some light aerobatics or unusual attitude training but I'm not sure where to find an instructor. I'm in NW Arkansas area, but I'm not adverse to going pretty much anywhere for even a few days. Anyone have any suggestions/recommendations?

Thanks!

Joyce

This is probably your best bet: http://www.aceaerobaticschool.com/about.html

Joyce,

I don't have a school close to you to recommend, but I know you will really enjoy and benefit greatly from the training. I consider the spin/ua/acro training i took to be some of the best training I had..

Thanks guys! I really appreciate the information and if anyone has any personal recommendations, I'm all ears. I bought a dirt bike several years ago to learn how to be a better street bike rider and I look at this the same way. I'm really fortunate that time and distance aren't too much of a factor. I'm definitely more interested in good training than cheap training.

Thanks!

Joyce,

I know a very good instructor in Kansas City. In addition, I *may* have access to an Extra 300L just outside of Little Rock and, if so, could do some training there. Send me a PM if you're interested and I'll look into it.

And as a person who has been turned upside down repeatedly by Chip, I highly recommend you pursue this option! He is an excellent instructor.

Given your flexibility, there's only one place in the world I'd go for this training: Dent Air, Ltd in Annapolis MD. Bill Finagin is widely recognized as the best spin and aerobatic upset recovery instructor on the planet. In fact, he was just inducted into the EAA hall of fame this past fall for his contributions to aerobatic/spin instruction and aerobatic competition. He'll do your training in a new/low time Pitts S-2C and you won't meet a more genuinely nice guy than Bill. I've personally seen him give training to pilots that have travelled from literally all over the planet to get his instruction. I've taken it myself - once when I first started in aerobatics and then again as a refresher. The confidence and skill imparted by this training is amazing and I simply wouldn't attempt aerobatic flying without it.

He's listed in the IAC schools web page and in any copy of Sport Aerobatics magazine. How many people can say they were trained by a Hall of Famer?

You're nuts if you don't take him up on his offer!!!!!!!!!!

I, too, know of a guy in KC - maybe he's the same person the rest of the folks are recommending.

PM me if you'd like his name, number, and e-mail.

Thanks so much guys for all the information. Chip and I had a great e-mail conversation last night and I'm hopefully going to meet him next week. I'm thrilled that we can do some aerobatics and that he's a CFII. I've been looking for an instructor just to do some regular recurrent instrument work as well.

I really appreciate all the recommendations! This board is really a great networking arena!

Joyce, you will enjoy flying with Chip. He is one of the best instructors that I have ever flown with...plus he is kind and very patient. :) In addition, he's fun, as well.

yep chip is a good guy, and a great instructor. be sure to let us know how your aerobatics go.

I'll definitely keep you all posted. I'm really, really looking forward to this. I don't want to take up aerobatics (I've got waaaay too many hobbies already ), I just want to be a safer pilot.

Diana, it's really great to hear that he's kind and patient. I get pretty nervous around people I don't know.

You'll like Chip.

I wrote about him in a few articles. He's on page 11 and 12 in this one. And he's in this one on page 8. :)

I can't say enough good things about Chip, so I better quit before his head gets so big he won't be able to find a ball cap that fits.

Diana, those articles are awesome! You're a great writer. I'd love to see you do aerobatics sometime. I'm just a little south and east of you in AR.

Thank you Joyce. :)

You're welcome to fly up anytime. :) We're on the sectional as 08MO. My flying isn't anything special to watch...mostly slow. Certainly not much to look at.

I used to fly into Berryville to see my sister who lives in Eureka Springs. She has a shop across from the Basin Hotel.

Has anyone on here acro trained with master CFI Jim Alsip at Indiantown, Fl. in his 2-place Pitts? Or have any knowledge of him?

Rick

Hi Joyce- you're going to have a grand time. It will truly give you a whole new perspective on piloting an aircraft. The instructor with whom I flew this past weekend took training in the Dallas area I think. But it sounds like you've got a plan with Chip. Let us know how it goes!

Diana: I read and enjoyed your articles very much

I met Mark Schledorn and his wife at the Gaston's 2009 fly-in:

He had just had a pretty serious accident and I am not sure he is instructing. He was a very compelling fellow to talk too. I know they frequent the Purple Board.

Joyce, as distance isn't much of a factor - beaut flying weather in Australia now.

Thanks, Jeanie! :)

We had an aerobatic training day here at the farm last summer...it worked out really well. DJ Molny and Marijke stopped in for a visit that day too.

It would be fun to have another aerobatic day at the farm this year, too. :)

Dave, I just cleared away the front of the hangar at the farm to make room for your airplane if you decide to make it up. :D

Dave,

I would love to be flying in Australia right now!!! It's got to be warmer there - brrrrrrr. Actually I'd take anyplace where the thermometer is reading over 30 right now:D

Has anyone on here trained with Steve Wolf? I noticed that he is in sunny Florida now near Orlando. That would be a plus. He also designs and builds so he should know his aircraft.
