Anybody done business with them in Lampster NH? He was advertising GTX 345's on Barnstormers. Price seems really good but wants payment before shipping and doesn't take credit cards. Not real easy about that.

Never have even heard of them. In this day and age accepting credit cards or credit cards through paypal payment is expected. If the reason for refusal is the associated cost, you could offer to cover their cost and pay with paypal or google wallet using your credit card. If they refused that I would walk.

I jumped through a bunch of hoops once for a specialty product (injector boss for fabbing our own intake) from a guy in Canada. Only took Discover, or International Postal MO. Only shipped with DHL. Had extensive reasons for not doing business with other cards or shippers. In his case, he was the only source available for a readymade turnkey product that I could find, so I obliged him, and it turned out ok.

You have to decide if you want to deal with this guy, but my gut tells me he's an old guy running a cash only business and doesn't want to hassle with credit card companies and the risk of contested charges. He's likely been burned before, and has no desire to be burned again. He's got a mature business. He's not looking to grow. He's probably semi retired. He doesn't NEED your business but he likely dabbles in it a bit when not trying to geek out his grandkids. If he kicks the bucket, the business and all his gear turns into an estate sale, and you would likely find a lot of groovy stuff if you were an electronics guy..

My google abilities tell me his business has been incorporated since 1990-92 and has been a member of electronics trade societies since then. The owner is Eckhard Straeter, and he has an Extra Class ham license with the same home address as his business. He's 63, a commercially rated pilot and a repairman. . He flies out of Parlin Field, 2B3, 10 miles away from his home on a 30 acre tract west of Lempster, NH that he shares ownership with a lady. Lots of solar panels on his land and they were installed between 2010 and 2016. His property taxes are up to date. His homestead is taxed at a value of about 30k for the land and 180k for the improvements.

Up to you.. its your money.... and its clear you are looking for a price bargain or you wouldn't have been on barnstormers to begin with.

I'd do some googling. It's worth it to pay a few % more to go with a reputable seller. Nothing against your potential seller, just do some research 1st.

Looks like the poster above did some research for you.

Wow color me impressed with your google abilities. Thanks for all the info, I will give him a call and talk in person before making a decision. He is about 1k cheaper than the box stores like AS and other online retailers.

I was surprised to see that this guy, as well as the online retailers, only sell it to experimental aircraft. I guess this is a requirement from Garmin, to protect their installers.
What a shame, I would have liked to just order a 345 online and to put it in with our mechanic... :(

At Oshkosh I specifically asked if the 345 could be purchased and self-installed in an E-AB and was told no. So I'm surprised this guy is able to do so.

More fishiness for this org.

Spruce and others are doing exactly the same. Sell it in their webstore, but exclusively to experimentals.
