Accessing past medical records

Is there anyway to access past medical records? I am able to go back to 2008 for the current HMO i have, but that is it.

I tried accessing my past military medical records, but the place that archives them is closed for covid. Also, how would i even access medical records that are 30+ years ago.

Legally, a health care facility, hospitals, clinics, and private offices have to keep records 6 years. Or...for at least 10 years (I think) after a minor turns 18. Most hospitals keep records much longer than that, but older records were paper charts and storage is a major expense, as it microfilming. Doctors offices would rarely go to that expense and often destroy the records. Some hospitals have converted old medical records to digital.

No way to know about your records. You'd have to go to each facility and ask their medical records department if the records are retrievable....they may very well be. Private doctor's office? Likely gone, but if the office is still there...you could ask.
