Scott Best, CFII (forum member) provides customized, accelerated IFR training from KJNX (Smithfield, NC) in a well-eqipped Pier PA28-161 warrior II, equipped with the Garmin 430W and a coupled Centry IIB autopilot that meets the FAA requirements of a TAA aircraft.
With 10 hours of logged instrument time and prior completion of the instrument (IRA) written exam, pilots can get their instrument rating in as little as 7 days.
The customized program consists of a series of mission profiles, which allows the pilot-training to rapidly build proficiency in IFR flying skills and then reinforce these skills by flying a series of short IFR cross-country flights to gain proficiency in working "in the system." The fainal day consists of the FAA instrument PTS / checkride with a local examiner.
Cost for the entire program is $ 4250 using the warrior, or $ 3250, using the training pilot's own suitably equipped aircraft. Local transportation is provided. Sometimes, free lodging is available at our home in out "pilot suite," a bonus room convert6 for pilot's use with a PC-based simulator, flat screen TV, etc. Otherwise, we have arrangements for pilots to stay at a local Best Western Inn at a preferred "pilot" rate of only $70/night.
