A quick introduction

Hello everyone,

I am a freshly minted private pilot from the San Francisco bay area (base is KCCR). Have been posting for months throughout my training on a different forum (same username), and stumbled upon this one last week - wish I'd known about it before! I certainly would have been posting here, too

My story is a bit atypical for the simple reason that I have a medical condition that is not normally conducive to flying, that being type 1, insulin-dependent diabetes. I posted to the medical forum here offering any insight I might have into the process of attaining my special issuance class-3 medical, and was invited to come here and introduce myself.

I have also posted some pictures of a couple of flights taken since earning my ticket.

No interest in a career; this is purely for fun!

So anyways... how y'all doin'? *sits back down*

Welcome, Onwards! Those are some nice photos. Night shots are notoriously difficult from a vibrating plane; those came out nicely, showcasing the beauty of the city at night. Must be nice being so close not only to a wonderful city, but such gorgeous scenery! Now, when is that camerawoman going to start taking lessons, or is she already a pilot?

Thank you! yeah, those did come out nice... I have several hundred more, I just need to post them. I love the landings ones into KCCR in particular... I have a great series there showing the entire approach to land at night.

Camerawoman has no interest in learning how to fly herself, but absolutely loves taking pictures from the plane... so it's a good fit since I still grin stupidly every time I get up there! the only hindrance for me is money at present; it's an expensive hobby, no matter how you slice it.

Hey Onwards, welcome to POA! Thanks for posting and thanks for sharing your experience as a Type I. Your photos are very clear. I like the ones that show the interior and exterior in the same shot, especially your high approach to O22.

We have some other SF folks here Kimberly flys out of the bay area. Its a beautiful area, my sister lives in Pacific Heights and I love when I go out to vist her.

Yeah, that high approach was great for the shots, not so much for actually landing... it was the first time for me in anything approaching mountain terrain (and my first flight as a private pilot in general) and between the hills and strange winds turned out a lot more challenging that I thought it was going to be. I actually needed two go-arounds before I "calibrated" properly for a good landing. What do they say about "license to learn?"

I do love interior/exterior shots too. You can see that in my selection of night photos as well - I love the ones with the ghost instruments.

I know Kim from that other forum. Did you know she completed her XC solos these past few days? go Captain Kimmy!

It is a beautiful area to fly in... I feel very privileged. I particular love flying around at night in the bay area. It's just stunning!

Second of all, you are making me blush. It is not a big deal that I completed all my solo cross country work, including crazy amounts of planning, in one weekend. Just two days of flying my butt off however thank you.

Third, I don't know about "captain" but I guess if I have passengers I could be silly and go on the intercom with that whole "this is your captain speaking" thing.

It may be silly, but it's tons of fun to do it... I have a ride scheduled with a couple of friends this weekend, and I sure do intend to pull this one off for a laugh!
