Just wondering how many A&P's out there own an airplane. I've had my little 1974 Beech Sport for 19 years coming up this summer. Flown all over the country with it and enjoy working on it as much as flying it. New paint is my next project, hard to find someone to let you paint in their hanger. Don't know if I could afford a plane if I had to pay someone to work on it.

I've owned several.

I don't own it but I don't think dad cares if he get it back. As many hours I've spent fixing I could own it lol.

Had a cessna 150 long ago before all 4 of my limbs were revised.

I've owned two. It was a lot easier when I had had my shop and people to work on them. I thought that I would have all of this extra time to fly and maintain the planes after I sold the place.

I still don't have the time to fly, I'm on the road working on other peoples planes. I can't hardly drag myself out to the airport to work on my own plane today, I just don't have the interest anymore.

I've owned a few. Once upon a time there was money in restoring them.

I'm on my third aircraft....but, I do this cause a like to, not cause I have to. :D

Glad you are living life to it's fullest. I know from personal experience, fractured neck how life can take one down. Attitude is key. You can do it. Nice plane I'm sure you will keep it in good shape, wish I had a hanger.

Surprised there are not more A&P's chiming in. Maybe they are working instead of using the internet....

I've owned a few. I currently own an old Bonanza.

I would like an old Bonanza, what are cost per hour to fly?

$50-100/hr for maintenance parts (I don't do an engine fund)....plus gas, fixed costs, and insurance.

I spend about $1,500/year in parts....and I shop for value.;)

The issue really is the bones of the aircraft you purchase. There are quite a few $3,000 items to be replaced on a Bo. Fuel tank bladders and magnesium ruddervadars are a couple of examples....

That's GenAv in a nutshell. And that's not to knock (good) A&Ps, they're worth what they're worth. But the cost hurdle is still high. Maybe if each pilot needed fewer hours from an A&P we could get more pilots and the A&Ps would still make out OK.
