[A] 6PC is not a Grumman owner

Can't get too mad, this is about the most first world issue one can have.

I was just waiting for some compassionate PoAer to offer you a safe space after that trauma. :D

(Buying an airplane is easier than trying to sell one imo)
 
We spend money inspecting a few birds before we found a good one, it happens. Part of the game.

I'd say there were 5-10 times as many 172's and Cherokees built as 4 seat Grummans.

And it isn't that easy to find a nice 40 YO Cherokee or 172. Grummans are that much harder...

Yes they are hard to find, and fortunately, I own one! 1979 Grumman Tiger with a G430W, KX-170, DME, and Century 1 AP.
 
Keep looking...they're out there...mine pretty much found me - you'll know when it's meant to be.
Good ones come up on Grumman Gang regularly, and second the FletchAir contact - think you've already been there/done that.
But, how'd it fly compared to the Cirrus? - control responsiveness is what most feel distinguishes the AA5's from lesser four placers.
 
I had several conversations with a Cardinal owner and the mechanic. My main concern was the spar which I was told was fine and passed the last annual a couple of months ago. I flew from Washington DC to Washington state and the owner picked me up and let me stay at his house. I flew the plane and was impressed until I asked the mechanic to pull the headliner and check the spar. The mechanic wanted me to tell the owner that his plane was not airworthy due to excessive corrosion and I just grabbed my bag and asked a guy at the airport to fly me back to SEATAC. A long trip and an expensive education but it helped me to make a good decision about the plane I did buy.

Back in the 1990's I sank about $20k into a panel re-do involving a Garmin 430, indicator, backup attitude indicator and moving things around. A great little plane:

Sold it to buy my Cirrus. Might want to track it down someday after PBOR2 goes into effect.

We once made an offer, sight unseen, on a 172 that was in Texas. They delivered it and the deal was that we had the option to walk away at any point with a full refund. I watched it land, and once it got within 250 feet knew we didn't want it. I never saw so much hail damage on an airplane (seller said several times via e-mail there was no hail damage). Not to mention every part on the airplane had a crack.

The young ferry pilot seemed happy to fly it back to Texas versus having to take the airline. He was gassed up and on his way home within 30 minutes of landing.
 
Just call up vans and order one of them new fangled kit birds. Then alls you gots to do's is smush some rivuts in them holes.

The rv kits are almost idiot proof to build, better performance than that plastic cirrus and you have complete control over maintenance. You can even force your children into helping, free labor.
 
I wanted a 172, and it took me almost a year to find a clean one. First one I Iooked at locally I should've bought. But I was nervous about the purchase and it was the first one I looked at, and it sold while I made up my mind.
Second one I looked at in WV. Flew down, and yeah it was misrepresented.
Third one was an hour drive away. Misrepresented. Instruments that didn't work, hail damage, minor corrosion. Had been sitting a lot longer than the owner stated (lost his license) according to the ramp guys. Owner got ****ed when I gave him the list of broken stuff found during the prepurchase inspection.
Fourth was in Maine. I've heard stories about planes for sale in northern Maine, and I learned why that day. Pass.

During this time I probably spent $100 on those $5 FAA reports, getting the history on planes all over. Learned a bunch there.

Ended up buying a 172 from a guy in Georgia. Great to deal with, didn't want a deposit. Flew down, did a quick look over, gave him a check. Been quite happy with it. Fun flight back, too. Got lucky with the weather.
