I was watching Monday night football in Rifle Colorado with some very drunk and very redneck uranium exploration drillers. Howard Cosell made th announcement that "we regret to inform you that former Beatle, John Lennon had been fatally shot outside his Dakota Apartment in New York".
The driller, in his cowboy hat said (in very slurred voice) " I din't care too much fer his music, but he seemed like a purty good 'ol boy, damn shame".
It was, too.:frown3:
One of those dates that makes you remember exactly where you were at the time (if you weren't too drunk to remember it the next day).

I was in the barracks at Keesler AFB in Biloxi, MS at the time. I still remember this DF-gomer in the day room clapping when heard the news. We all looked at him and he exclaimed with glee his happiness that the creator of Russian communism was finally dead. [FACEPALM] We explained it to him real slow.
