It's a 1969 PA-31, which got its certificate in Canada in 2016. It's registered in Canada to one of the two guys who were arrested when it landed in Ohio.

FlightAware shows that it has recently flown back and forth in the Bahamas, Anguilla, Turks and Caicos, and Dominican Republic. No track however for its recent flight that ended up in Ohio.

That flight from Windsor Canada to Freeport Bahamas was 963 nm, if they had flown direct. A bit longer since they didn't.

That would be right at the limit of the range of a standard Navajo, but I found a Plane and Pilot article that says the range is boosted to 1628 nm if it was bought with the optional nacelle tanks.
 
Local news update tonight said that one of the men charged has plead not guilty today. The other is due in court next week.

Both suspects pleaded guilty, one today and one last month. Sentencing hearings to follow.
