It was a cold, high pressure day and when I took off about 0930, the barometer setting was 30.80, the highest I recall. Density altitude at the 650' MSL runway elevation was -3300 feet.
I was trying to remember the lowest barometer setting I've flown in. Something around 29.45, if I remember right.

Yikes, that's high!

You just keep that sub-zero stuff up in Iowa this time, Jim. In November, you let it get out, and people down here were NOT happy when it was 36 degrees on the beach! :lol:

We had a gorgeous high pressure day here yesterday. Crystal clear blue sky, a billion miles of viz. 58 degrees on the surface, 62 degrees at 4500'.

Here's a pic with our friend's new (to them) Mooney in Brenham. It was a great day to fly!

I saw 28.87 about a month ago in bethel
 
So if it was -3300 wouldn't the plane want to scream it was producing so much power?

I know when drag race that my car is substantially slower in a 5000da then a -100da.
 
30.60" at JWY south of Dallas and 30.66" at Sheppard AFB SPS, Wichita Falls.
 
30.55 in NE Ohio yesterday on the way to Port Clinton, the Arrow loves that cold dense air.

30.58 today at St Louis
 
30.62 in Olive Branch (south east of Memphis) - The highest I've seen it since i started flying.
 
I got a 30.84 flying over Nebraska -

Actually you might encounter a situation where the engine isn't able to be rich enough. The mixture knob simply doesn't go far enough and the result is the engine running lean.
 
During my PPL training, the first time I saw a major negative value for DA (field elevation here is 642ft MSL) I commented to my CFI, "So this is what it's like to fly underwater"
 
We had 30.84 yesterday.

We've had winds 25G35 for about 3 days now. No light sport flying in that weather.

You'll get about -1000 MSL for DA on a standard day at the airport in this picture. Armageddon Aviator could tell you where this one is. :yes:

Barometer readings have been very high around here. KSEA set a record yesterday. 30.84" That's darned high.
