2022 flying plan dilemma

Inexperienced opinion here, having looked into the parachute plane to swing a return to aviation with kids now. I couldn’t find a rental or rate anywhere near me . . .

What about buying into the commanche and using the 15-hours with a CFI for transition training and super IPC to meet the 300 hour minimum?

Sounds like it would still be cheaper than the SR20 route?

The Comanche owner seemed like a really nice guy, was a CFI, and offered similar options. In the end, I decided insurance companies establish their thresholds based on hard accident data so if the actuary tables say I shouldn't be flying a Comanche until 300 TT then so be it. If the guy is still looking for partners (which is a big if as it was well over a year ago) when I get to 300 then the Comanche would be significantly cheaper than the 20 and likely the best option available to me.

I have not been able to find a nearby rental 182. I have found a rental 172RG so I'll soon join a second club so I can fly it. My current club's 172 is 145hp so with the RG I get more speed, useful load and an AP. This club also has a Redbird so I have another IFR currency option.

Oh. I was hoping it was an actual club. I find FlyCarolina to be too expensive, even for “club” members.

Agreed. No good options really.
