Hi guys. Probably already covered in 30000 areas, but ferrying a c172 with o300d, fresh engine, to a customer in puerto rico. (Turtlepack fuel bladder).

Wondering anyones experience in this exact situated model 172 in reference to a REAL cruise speed and fuel burn.

It has wheel pants, clean paint, good condition.

Looking avg speeds / safe planning speeds.

Thanks

105 kias, 7.5 gph are safe numbers, gathered over my 17 years of owning one.
When I sold ours the ferry pilot planned 100 kias.

That's faster than my student's. We flogged the crap out of it and were lucky to get 110...mph.

I fly mine (1966 with O-300) at roughly 65% power on cruise because I am cheap and don't want to buy gas and I am in no hurry to get anywhere, but I burn somewhere between 7-8 gph usually and cruise at 100-103 KIAS. Obviously GS is what you need for real planning purposes which is determined by wind of course.

2450 rpm, roughly 102 kts or 115 mph. I plan for 8 gpm to be conservative

Wow, 8 gallons per minute! That's a lot of fuel, must be the new Raptor NG prototype hybrid system :p

Sorry, just couldn't resist :D
