Not a blimp.

Oh, the huge manatee!
Do we really need to go there? Again?

rofl @ Tim's image...

Nate and Bart (and some others) will appreciate this version

I was always kinda partial to this version...

Someone buy Ed's airplane now. That is all.

I see this small fire burning. I have a big can of AvGas....

What do ya'll think about my price?

:D

Ed, I think it's a fair price and I've been torn to call you back. It's a 1958 model and while I can't give a reason other than "it's old" and I wonder about re-sell value, 54 years does give me pause. The comanche, IIRC got wiped out in a flood and hasn't been produced since. People make comments under their breath about how long the AD list is and other than the gear AD, I don't know much about them. Your panel appears beautiful, but unfortunately I'm a UNIX guy and snub my nose and anything microsoft and someone cut a hole in a beautiful panel to put a small windows machine in, I know those magenta lines are pretty but all I see is blue screen of death. I've been haggling with a guy all day on a Mooney, it's got a new engine, new panel, 530 (With XM Weather), 300XL, every speed mod known to man, fresh leather interior, a brand new paint and it's 10 years newer. an IO-360, new, with comparable speed a $40,000 panel recently done, fresh imron and fresh cowhide with less upkeep, it was/is just too tempting. I know how much cooler I'd look in a comanche but crusing around at IO-360 fuel burn at the same speed behind a new engine, XM Weather equipped 530 on fresh leather, it's hard to beat. That's the market you're in (with me at least). At 45,000 I'd bring you cash tomorrow. But, you don't seem like someone who has to sell and I'm not a buyer hell bent on a comanche, so i didn't bother to lowball you :) I think you'll get your asking price, but I'm not sure it's the plane for me. I think you'll need a buyer looking for what you're selling and it'll be worth it to them.

Heh. You're a worse Unix snob than me. ;)

That windows box isn't permanently installed. It just slides in and runs off a 14V cigarette plug under the panel. The hole cut in the panel is the standard MFD size, and was there when I got the plane. The cover plate and screws to put it back are in the glove box and I'd keep the Windows box if no one wants it. - but in a year I've had no BSODs. I wouldn't have been insulted at 45k. That's what I've paid for it, and I put on the tips, and some other new parts.

IMO, anybody who's even remotely interested in a comfortable traveling machine should think hard about Ed's plane. I've owned several PA-20/30 series planes, and found that the the 60-gal tank capacity was the only chink in the 250's armor insofar as achieving the utilization for which it was designed. FWIW, Piper decided the same thing and installed 90 gal tanks in later models of the same airframe.

Ed obviously decided that more fuel would be a good thing as well, and added the tip tanks to solve the problem. Just put a sharp crisp paint job on it (even though what's left of the Brown & White scheme it's sporting now are my HS colors :D) and you'll have a sweet ride for years to come.

This is such a good value!

Thread revival... was a buyer ever found?

still registered to Ed, would be a good plane for you Mike!

Solo flying too expensive and what is the use if you cannot share this experience with friends or family ? Bring your dog with you ................

Do your job or get where you're going. Over 2500 hrs over 2200 of them are solo, even non work flights. My Midget Mustang was an excellent commuter between N Tx and S La, my 7+ hr drive to work turned to a 2hr flight. The reality is, not that many people want to share the experience.:rolleyes2:

Ed knows that if he sells it, it's just going to mean he'll buy a Twinkie in a few years.

Flying alone does get old. I've done much more of it than either Ed or David (probably more than both combined). What I've determined is that a lot of people want to fly, but they don't want to do real trips. Even people who are supposedly trying to build time to further their careers have asked me if I have any shorter trips, they don't feel like flying 8-10 hours in a day. Really? You're trying to build time and you don't want to get a 10 hour block for free in a day? Some people.

Crap! What a deal....wish I lived near you!

Mehh, I'm staring at enough cash to wipe out every piece of debt my wife and I have, which is not much, but it would be gone (Except the mortgage). our monthly bills would then equate to about $900/month, that's mortgage included EVERYTHING. No more hangar fee, no more insurance, no more biennials, no more submitting to a medical, no more regs to worry about, no more fighting for attention to get maintenance done, no more $600 fuel pumps and no more $6 per gallon avgas. We could realistically semi-retire in our mid-40s if we played our cards right. At the rate we've been working it, we would be debt free in 10 months anyway but maybe buying another plane is folding aces. Before you accuse me, my wife is insisting that I go get another, bigger, faster, meaner one. And I want it, but is it the smart thing to do?

I too fight these ideas. Although I have been 100% debt free for 10 years and 5 years even without credit cards, I wonder if I should keep the 175 knots Comanche turbo or trade into a mogas plane like Cherkee 235; 182; 225hp Bo with stc for mogas?

Depends on the day..... half price fuel is a heck of a motivator. I already self censor some short flights knowing its 75-85 per hour of fuel.

You need to start leaning.

Hmmm sounds interesting. I have a mo gas 235 :)

After 300ish hours solo in my airplane in a little over a year I am getting burned out on solo flying. I just never can find anyone to go on trips with me. Even day trips like down to the coast I end up going solo.

I've had the opposite issue, when I go fly on my day off from flying for work, I have a list of folks that want to go up, funny is after flying a plane full of people everyday it's nice to buzz along the coast by myself.

Nice piper, you should get it on barnstormers, trade a plane, aso and ebay too.

Well, I did the smart thing and spent 20K over my budget for a Bonanza, then bought a 20K truck to go visit the plane in :D

beautiful plane! I love the updated panel sure beats the scatter panel in my 260. Good luck with the sale, I wish I was in the market.

Is it sad that I've been having dreams of owning this airplane? I'm not even in the market to own, but this plane is speaking to me.

I've even already booked the one-way ticket to Detroit (in my mind) so that I can fly it down here (after getting the required endorsements, of course). Another dream of mine; a true "cross country" (vertically).

Stupid dreams -- I want this airplane.

(thread bumped ;) )

Also had more than a passing interest in this one.... We'll talk tomorrow at Breakfast.

I have flown in this plane, and it is a nice one. Ed's a crabby old bastard (OK, he's not old), but he maintains a plane well. I'd fly in it any time.
